Sin that leads to death

I Samuel 3

❇️ The guilt of Eli’s house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering (v14)

❇️ This was because the family of Eli was guilty of sins committed wilfully against the LORD. Eli’s sons continued to sin even after being cautioned and hence they were killed.

❇️ Old Testament sacrifices were not perfect sacrifices like the sacrifice of Jesus Christ whom God sent as an atoning sacrifice (1Jn.4:10) and they were only able to stop or cancel the punishment for the sins and could not atone for their sins.

❇️ 1 Jn.5:16 speaks about sin that leads to death. Does it mean that there are sins that do not lead to death?
No, all sins lead to death if not forgiven on the basis of blood of Jesus Christ.

❇️ Heb.10:26 says, “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left”, but only a fearful expectation of judgement and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

❇️ From the above verse we understand that if we continue in our sins wilfully after coming to the saving knowledge of Christ and after having salvation experience by repenting and seeking forgiveness for our sins, it will be difficult for God to forgive us which will lead to our eternal death.

❇️ Heb.10:31 says, “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God”

❇️ In the light of the above verses and from the tragic end of Eli family the lesson we learn is that we can not afford to continue in our sins wilfully after coming to the saving knowledge of Christ.

✅ Insights learnt:
▪️Lord Jesus Christ death is an atoning sacrifice for our sins
▪️Wilful sins against the Lord not atoned by the blood of Christ lead to eternal death
