Don’t cry for life, cry for Eternal Life

2 Kings 20: 3
I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

Hezekiah was the most remarkable king in the lineage of the kings. He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.(2 Kgs 18: 5)

He removed the high places (2 Kgs 18:4)

When he prayed God sent one Angel and killed 185000 Assyrians in one night. (2Kgs 19:35)

Such a great man of God, when he was on the death bed, prophet Isaiah came and told him that he will die and that he has to set his house in order. Instead of giving heed to the words of the prophet, we see that he cried unto God not for his eternal life, but for the earthly life.

Moreover he was reminding God about his self righteousness (2Kgs 20:3). Nevertheless God heard his prayer and extended his life for 15 more years. Down the line in his remaining part of life, he was not much useful to God, instead he was grievious to God by showing the Babilonians everything in the temple of God. He shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.(2Kgs 20:13) This was an abomination in God’s sight. His son Manasseh was one of the worst kings in Judah.

Sooner or later according to the law of creation one day we have to leave this earth, every one is born to die. Hezekiah in his last days he didn’t set his house in order.

Unlike Hezekiah, we have to give importance for our eternity. The life on this earth is temporary. We shouldn’t cry for it. Our citizenship is in heaven, we need to be cautious about it.

Stay Blessed 😊
