Absalom’s pride ultimately destroyed him

2 Samuel 18:9b “Absalom’s hair got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in midair, while the mule he was riding kept on going”

Absalom was described as a very handsome man and favored by many.

He was manipulative, disloyal and selfish; he lacked the personal character, self-control, and integrity that is needed to be a leader.

In chapter 17, Absalom tries to steal the throne from his father.

Hushai, one of David’s confidants, pretends to be on Team Absalom in order to help David escape.
Absalom follows Hushai’s advice and puts together a massive army to fight against his own father.
Hushai predicted great glory for Absalom if he led the troops into battle.

But instead of glory, Absalom’s hair got stuck in a tree and his horse kept walking, leaving him dangling until David’s men found him and killed him

Absalom dies a pretty embarrassing death!!!

Absalom’s pride ultimately destroyed him.
Pride caused Absalom to believe he would be a better king than the Lord’s anointed.

He got hung up on a tree, by his pride

Proverbs 16:18 – teaches that pride always comes before a fall.

Pride destroys relationships, but humility is the antidote to pride. Humility builds relationships.

If we want to have more humility, spend time with Jesus Christ.
He is humble.

No one has done anything more than Jesus, coming from Heaven to Earth to become a man, live for us, give his life for us, and be resurrected for us.

Spend time with Him in prayer and reading His Word and talking to Him.
He wants a relationship with us.
