The Unnoticed Woman 🌹
There were several women like Michal, Abigail and Bathsheba who played an important, influential role in the life of David. The last woman in David’s life was Abishag. We hardly hear any sermon about this Abishag who was selected to take care of old king David.
The Bible says that the king’s officers searched throughout all the territory of Israel for a lovely young virgin who would stand before the king and care for him. She also had to lie with the king and provide warmth to the aging body.
Wonder why they wanted a beautiful, lovely young virgin to be a caretaker for the king? Any repsonsible nurse could have done the same job. Again this Abishag was a pawn of the royal monarchy. Though helpless she was helpful to the mighty king of Israel.
Abishag was by the king serving him. She would have spent several sleepless days and nights caring for him. But no one noticed her or her service. She would have been there by David when he spoke with Nathan and Bathsheba and had Solomon anointed as king.
Abishag slowly and literally saw the king of Israel die. Next we read about Adonijah the son of David asking for Abishag the Shunammite as wife (1 Kings 2:17). Solomon saw through the hidden conspiracy of Adonijah and had him killed. Abishag had silently watched two prominent men die. The Bible does not say what happened to her afterwards. But God had recorded her unnoticed service in the Bible.
Dear ones in Christ, we may be serving the Lord in a silent, hidden manner. Our ministry may go unnoticed to those in and around us. We may go unnoticed and not appreciated or encouraged. But God who noticed Abishag will certainly notice our service of love for His kingdom. And He will bless and repay us in His own way. So never get discouraged on being neglected.
God bless us to be channels of blessings.
