A God ordained meeting Acts 8:26-40

The story of Philip and Ethiopian eunuch teaches that meeting people where they are and allowing God to work is the best approach when sharing faith. God definitely has an agenda, and simple obedience even when you don’t understand the plan is the best way to fit into the agenda.

Philip is given the simple command Go down the road Acts 8:26 what does he do? Do you think he has any inkling of the events that are to follow?

Whether the eunuch is a jew or a God fearing gentile is not known, but he hasbeen to Jerusalem to worship and is seen sitting in a chariot, reading the book of Isaiah Acts 8:27-28. One thing is clear. God is working in his heart and directing the events around him. Can you think of ways God has carefully directed the events in your life? What can you do to increase your awareness of God’s hand in the events of your life?

Philip doesnot have to push his beliefs on the eunuch. The eunuch invites Philip to explain the scriptures to him.How will you share the good news to others?

Philip explains the good news. As they travel along, they come to some water – 8:36. God has directed everthing. Eunuch initiates the baptism. It is God does the work in his heart. Whose task is it to speak the gospel? Rom 10:14-15 How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news whose task is it to open blind eyes? Luke 24:45 Then He opened their minds so that they could understand the scriptures.

Understand thou what thou readest Acts 8:30

We may be able teachers.
We sought to have more intelligent understanding of the Word of God.
As the Holy Ghost, the author of the Scriptures, is He alone can enlighten us rightly to understand.
We should constantly ask His teachings and His guidance into all truth.
When the prophet Daniel would interpret Nebuchadnezzar ‘s dream, what did he do?
He set himself to earnest prayer that God open up the vision.
The apostle John, in his vision at Patmos, saw a book sealed with seven seals ,which none was found worthy to open, or so much as to look upon.
The book was afterwards opened by the Lion of tribe of Judah, who had prevailed to open it, but it is written first–” I wept much “.
The tears of John, which were his liquid prayers, were, so far as he was concerned, the secret kept by which the folded book was opened.
It should be our desire, “Filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. “
We should remember that prayer is our best means of study like Daniel.
We are stone makers, we must go down on our knees.
Let us use the hammer of diligence.
Let our knees of prayer be exercised.

The death of Stephen

The death of Stephen seemed to be a defeat for the church, but it resulted in some great victories for the Lord. Wherever the believers went, they shared the gospel and many trusted the Savior (Vs.1-7; 11:19). Stephen’s witness made a tremendous impression on Saul and was instrumental in his conversion (22:20). Never give up when the enemy seems to be winning. It may be your finest hour of victory.

Like Stephen, Philip was a deacon who was also an evangelist; and God led him to witness in Samaria to people hostile to the Jews (John 4:9). The coming of Peter and John and the giving of the Holy Spirit linked the Samaritan believers to the saints in Jerusalem and the ancient division was healed. The way to turn enemies into friends is to make them brothers and sisters in Christ.

In times of great blessing, wherever God sows true seed, the devil sows a counterfeit (Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43). Like Peter we must be alert and exercise discernment.

Philip left a great harvest to talk to one man, but that is the mark of a true servant of the Lord. We must go where God sends us, do what God tells us, and leave the results with Him.
