Ezekiel was among the exiles by the Kebar river in the land of Babylon when he saw visions of God. And God told him that He was sending him to the Israelites with His message. God told Ezekiel that the Israelites were rebellious, obstinate, hardened, stubborn and they revolted against Him.

The task assigned to Ezekiel was difficult. The Israelites neither listen or respond to God’s warning. Yet Ezekiel had to deliver them God’s word whether they listen or not. God expected Ezekiel to obey Him though his mission was unfruitful. It was an act of faith. And Ezekiel obeyed God.

The Israelites were stiff necked people. But God did not desert them to perish. He kept on sending them His word. He was grieved by their adulterous behavior. Though their sin evoked His wrath and punishment, He kept on sending His word, giving them chances to repent and turn to Him.

Dear ones in Christ, our Father in heaven is a loving God. He hates sin but loves sinners. He always gives a chance to repent and return to Him. He never deserts halfway through. He disciplines and draws us to Him. May we never take His love for granted.

God expects us to obey Him and take His word to the unreached. We have to sow His word though the people listen or do not listen. It our duty to sow the word and God will make His word grow. May we never be disappointed when we fail to see fruits in our ministry. Let us keep doing our part and God will do the rest.

Ezekiel 1:.28b: “This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking”.

Ezekiel served as a prophet to the exiles in Babylon from 593-571 BC.

His name means “God is strong” or “God strengthens”.

He was born and raised in Judah and was preparing to become a priest of God’s Temple when the Babylonians attacked around 597 BC.

God had communicated to prophet Ezekiel through visions.

In verses.5-6, we can see that in His vision he saw each of the four living creatures had four faces which symbolized God’s perfect nature.

In the New Testament also we can see the connection between these faces and of Christ’s nature throughout the Gospels such as ……….
………. Matthew: Lion represents Christ as Lion of Judah,
…………. Mark: Ox representing Christ as the Servant,
…………… Luke: the human as Christ’s perfect human nature, and
…………….. John: the eagle portraying Christ as the Son of God who is divine and the exalted one. (Augustine)

In v.26, the ‘figure like that of a man’ revealed God as Holy and similarly Christ revealed God in human form to show to us the great message of salvation.

During this present pandemic situation, we may also feel overwhelmed and we may also tend to question the authority of God.

But we are the ones He reveals Himself to everyday, we are the ones that should guide others the message of hope.

We should believe and know, even in the calamities and difficult challenges, even then God is in control and we should give all our trust in Him.

How are we responding to God’s holiness and authority based on the way we are living today?

How much are we quietly being in God’s presence alone, away from the loudness of the world to listen and submit to His voice and live as children of hope?
