Ezekiel 18:31 “Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit.”

The book of Ezekiel mentions the concept of a “new heart” several times (e.g., Ezekiel 18:31; 36:26). In Ezekiel 11:19, God says: “And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them.
The Israelites were in a dangerous state. They had chased after foreign gods and turned their backs on the true God for centuries.
But our gracious Lord was promising them a new heart and a new spirit.

What a marvelous promise to His people!
Much of the message of Ezekiel is God’s desire to change His people.

In general, the term heart is used to describe a person’s soul—the mind, will, and emotions.
In the Bible, it can also be referred to as the “inner self” in 2 Corinthians 4:16.

There will always be a battle between our heart’s fleshly desires and God’s Spirit that is within us.

Our hearts are so full of sin and disobedience.
Sometimes we are hard and rash with people.
…. We judge others too soon.
….. We love less and expect more.
……… we may not have feelings or emotions for others.

God’s heart for you and me today is that we would take an honest look at our hearts, and recognize our need for transformation.

The only person who can transform us is Jesus.

Receiving a new heart from God is about transformation into the image of our Creator.

When God puts His Spirit in us, our spiritual DNA changes from the old carnal sin nature of Adam’s Bloodline, to a new Bloodline through Jesus Christ.

When Christ lives in us,
….. we cannot do what we used to do,
………. We cannot use the language that we once used.

With our new heart, all we are changes; we become a people after God’s own heart.
