Genesis 48-50, Exodus -1

🍁 Manasseh & Ephraim 🍁
Jacob had gone old and was ill. So Joseph took his two sons to be blessed by him. Jacob was very happy to see his grandsons. He never expected to see Joseph again but God enabled him to see his grand sons too.

Manasseh was the eldest. But Jacob put his right hand on Ephraim the younger son and his left hand on Manasseh. Joseph was disappointed. But Jacob said Manasseh will be great but Ephraim will be greater than him and his descendants would become a group of nations.

Exodus chapter 1
Exodus means exit or departure. Joseph his brothers and all that generation died but the Israelites were fruitful and multiplied greatly and became numerous.

👑 The New King 👑
The new king did not know about Joseph. The king was worried that the Israelites were great in number and at any time may wage war against them. So he decided to deal shrewdly with them. So slave masters were put over them to oppress them with forced labour and they were treated ruthlessly. The king told the midwives to kill the boy babies. But the midwives feared God and did not do that. God blessed the midwives.

They told the king that the Hebrew women were vigorous and gave birth before the mid wives arrived. The king ordered that all the Israelite boy babies should be thrown into the River Nile. But the girl babies could live. The king never realised that the Israelites had a great God watching over them and that He would fight all their battles for them.
