👫🏾 The Pathetic Family 👭🏻

Lot’s family was a peculiar one that ended in a pathetic tone. We need to study about this family to gain a deeper look at their wrong choices as it is a warning signal for all.

It all started with Lot who had a streak of selfishness sticking on to him. He decided to accompany Abram on his calling. He trusted the God of Abram. But made up his mind to move to flourishing Sodom half way through. Lot’s eyes were always on the best things of this world. He walked not by faith.

⛺ In the beginning Lot pitched his tent near Sodom. Perhaps he hesitated to move into Sodom as their sin was very grave (Gen 13:12, 13). But very soon he moved into Sodom (Gen 14:12). Lot with his family moved into Sodom and Sodom slowly entered into Lot’s family. The entire family was enticed, influenced and entangled by Sodom and its life style.

Lot soon became an influential person in Sodom but he did not influence Sodom in any way. In fact Sodom influenced his whole family. God has placed us in this world to be a light and salt. He wants our lives to make an impact on those around us. Lot was a righteous man who was grieved by the erroneous sins of Sodom.

⏳ Lot hesitated to leave Sodom. The entire family longed and lingered in Sodom even at a crucial hour. They failed to realize the seriousness of the moment. The angel had to grasp his hands, his wife’s and daughters and literally hurry them out of the city before it could be destroyed.

Lot’s wife ignored the angel’s warning and turned back to have a last look at Sodom. She did not take God’s command seriously. She took it lightly and was punished for her disobedience.

👭🏻 Life in Sodom had left a bad impact on Lot’s daughters and they did a loathsome act. Or was it a retaliation to their father’s earlier statement to the people of Sodom? (Gen 19:8).

The choices that we make in life do affect us and our family. May God give us the grace and wisdom to make right choices that lead us and our progeny to His blessings.
