One basket has good figs in it while the other basket contains bad figs

Jeremiah 24:4-7 “Then the word of the LORD came to me: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, …………They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.

In this chapter Jeremiah sees a vision of two baskets of figs.

One basket has good figs in it while the other basket contains bad figs.

After Jeremiah sees the vision, God explains the significance of it to him.

The good figs represent the Israelites who had been taken into exile. God would be working for their good and would eventually return them to their land.

The basket of bad figs represented the Jews who remained behind in the land. These Jews were facing destruction.

God uses two baskets of fruit to illustrate His message of this chapter.

In verses 5-7, God expresses His big plan to bring them back, restore them, and give them a new heart to know Him even better.

He promises that He will be their God and that with their new heart they will turn to Him as never before!

We don’t always understand why God does what He does, or allows what He allows. But God has His purpose.

The bad figs in this story choose to exercise their free will to disobey their master, and they did it again and again, and again, and again, until the results they got were exactly what they hoped for—to be left alone by God.

Reliance on God causes grace and blessings to flow into our lives.

Ignoring God means we get to do life alone, on our own, calling the shots for ourselves but at the same time pushing away grace.

Let’s ask ourselves…………
In which basket we are?

Are we in the basket of good figs, …………….. Or are we in the basket of bad figs?

If we are in the basket of bad figs… we need to face the consequences for the decisions we’ve made.
