Washing before partaking supper (John 13 : 2-10)

👤 Apostle John records the details of that evening (before Jesus’ arrest) when the disciples sat down to eat the Last Supper. They had come in off the street, but nobody had washed their feet. They wore sandals, and the very first thing to do would be to wash each other’s feet or have a servant to do it. This was the custom, but no one had washed their own feet nor even the Lord’s feet.

📌So who is going to get up and wash the feet❓
Nobody moved ; there is still a great deal of pride in the disciples’ heart and mind.
💫 Jesus himself rose from supper to was the disciples’ feet 👣
💫 Jesus, that evening, had washed the feet of :
👤 Simon Peter who will deny Him (Luke 22: 34, 54-61)
👤 Judas Iscariot who will betray Him (Matthew 26:21, 25,47-49)
👤 Thomas who will doubt about His resurrection (John 20:24-25)
👥 Other Disciples who will desert Him in Gethsemane (Mark 14:50)
💫 “… yet Jesus showed them the full extent of His love” v 1b by washing their feet, and said to them, ” I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you” v 15

✅ Peter and the other disciples knew all about FOOT WASHING. This was a daily occurrence with them. But in today’s passage Jesus said, ” I gave you an example “.

📌 WHAT WAS THIS EXAMPLE ❓
✅ GENTLENESS and HUMILITY (Matthew 11:29)
📝 There is no record that these disciples ever criticized each other or quarreled after this evening.
Humility is a sign of greatness in the Kingdom of God 1Peter 5:5-6

💞 Beloved Church, there are plenty of FEET to be washed. There are some christians who are away from the fellowship ; there are some who do not come to the church : Do not criticize them; but love them; listen to them ; your target is to restore them , and if possible visit your brother alone. Wash their feet.

📌 HOW TO WASH OTHER’S FEET❓
1️⃣ If you are spiritual, take the Word of God. Use it lovingly and prayerfully (Self dedication/ preparation)
2️⃣ Make sure your brother’s feet are dirty (Any trespass)
3️⃣ Make sure that you stoop low (humility)
4️⃣ Make sure that your hands are clean (Consecration / Upright)
5️⃣ Choose a proper place / time for foot washing (Important element)
6️⃣ Dry the feet (Follow up action)

📌 Washing (self examine) is necessary and important before partaking the Lord’s Supper. 1Cor 11:27-29

John 15:19 If you belonged to the world ,it would love you as its own .As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world That is why the world hates you

It is not easy to be a Christian in this world. At times people will misunderstand us .Some may even dislike us. Still others may go out of their way to oppress us or cause us suffering.

Jesus says that persecution will come to His followers because the world is hostile to those who follow Him. John 15:21

False religion/ their followers will always oppose God and the principles of His kingdom So battle is not on us but on Christ.

Believers suffer at the hands of the world because they are different in their values standard. They do not belong to the world but have come out of the world. Believers refuse to compromise with the ungodly standards since their minds are on things above and not on earthly things. Col 3:2

Jesus calls us to be faithful at all circumstances He reminds us that when there is persecution ,it is evident that we belong to Him. John 15:18_20
