Weeping with those who weep

Love is… weeping with those who weep [Romans 12:14-15]

Jeremiah had preached for 40 odd years in Judah. Hardly anyone listened. He was mistreated, termed a traitor, punished for no fault of his, put in prison…

And yet, when Jerusalem fell and the temple was destroyed, when he saw the priests and nobles killed while the others were led into exile, he lamented in 5 long songs that pour out the anguish of his soul.

I would probably have indulged in a little bit of I told you so. Jeremiah wept.

He reflects Jesus’s words in Matthew 5:44-45; “You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.” (MSG Bible).

True love weeps when our ennemis fall. True love springs out of a renewed mind that follows Christ. Something I really have to chew on today.

Stay blessed.

Lockdown Reflections… 📝

Day 176, 270 Days Bible Reading, Wednesday, 6.1.21. ✒

In this lockdown, let God complete His purpose for our lives, ministry and leadership… Lamentations 2:17.

💧 In this Lockdown the Lord has abruptly changed my life — and I would have missed it entirely, if I thought that I was on an extended holiday and had not been listening, morning by morning, Isaiah 50:4. The Lord was giving me new leadership training for a new ministry, in a new era, with a new beginning, in a new situation, as a new vessel. In Lamentations, Jeremiah, as a faithful prophet, is crying out even more for God’s people because they would not listen.

💧 At the end of the Book of Jeremiah, we have seen that the Balm of Gilead was available for those who return to God. However, it will not be available for Babylon, who will be smashed into smithereens when God drops her like a fragile China Cup after she has served His purpose, being reduced to rubble by the Persians, Jeremiah 51:8-9.

💧 We need to sit still and listen to God and learn, instead of trying to figure out and running around, hurrying to do everything without the wisdom of God. Israel was unwilling to listen to God, and they faced an unnecessary tragedy. We have to learn from our mistakes and failures, and repent and return to serve God. Many Christian leaders and believers have left because they could not see God’s purpose for them in this lockdown, especially when faced with all the tragedy that no one was prepared for. Jesus had warned us about all the perilous things that would take place, and we have to overcome the difficulties through Christ Jesus, John 16:22.

💧 Child of God, Remember this, we have to listen and learn daily at the feet of Jesus, who is the wisdom of God, 1 Corinthians 1:24. We are preserved by His wisdom, Jeremiah 51:15. The whole theme of Lamentations is “Listen, Learn, Love and Live.” Let us allow God to fulfil His purpose in our lives and bring it to completion, so that we can cry out more for the world to listen to God… Amen. 🙏
