Dermatology is the branch of medicine that deals with the skin. A dermatologist is a doctor specialized in diseases related to skin, hair, nails and some cosmetic issues. There are few chapters in the Book of Leviticus that deal with dermatology.

God knew before hand that the people will face skin related issues. So in the Mosaic Law, He gave detailed instructions of ‘do’s’ and ‘dont’s ‘. It is quite interesting to note God’s deep concern and care for the wholistic well being of His people.

Leviticus gives the symptoms of various skin problems like leprosy, common scab, common boil, burning boil, dry scall, freckles and baldness. And in those days most of skin diseases were termed as leprosy.

The priest was the dermatologist who diagnosed the accurate problem by referring the Mosaic Law. He followed the procedures given in these chapters of Leviticus to identify the disease.

It is more interesting to note that social distancing, isolation, isolation camps and masks were from God to control and contain contagious infections (Lev 13:45, 46). Maybe the earliest physician had learnt this from the Book of Leviticus.

God also gave instructions about leprosy in garments and the remedy (Lev 13:47-59). There were also instructions about symptoms of house leprosy and the remedy (Lev 14:33-53). The Bible says about ceremonial cleansing for flesh leprosy both for the poor and the rich (Lev 14:1-32).

Dear ones in Christ, from all this we understand that God was particular about cleanliness, hygiene and good health. He wants us to follow the advice of the physicians. Good health is a tremendous blessing from God. And may God give us grace and wisdom to take care of ourselves.
