Count off seven sabbath years—seven times seven years—so that the seven sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years – Leviticus 25:8

God instituted a Sabbatical YEAR, where every seventh year was observed as a SABBATH YEAR. During a Sabbatical year, the land would lie fallow. Like the people of Israel, the promised land of Israel was to be given rest every seventh year. The Law stated that during a Sabbatical year, land-owners must leave the land uncultivated, while God promised to supply ALL their needs during their sixth harvest.

One further festival that was tied to God’s Sabbatical requirements was the YEAR OF JUBILEE, which was to be celebrated at the end of every forty-ninth year. This special year of Jubilee was to be kept following seven, sabbatical years – every fiftieth year.

God commanded that the DAY OF ATONEMENT, in the 49th year was to be the day when the Jubilee year commenced. It was to be a time of great rejoicing and new beginnings – a time of liberty and freedom, where any wrongs were put right. Anyone who had been sold into slavery was to be set free in this glorious time of celebration, and any land that had been sold during the previous 49 years, was to revert back to the original owner.

Both the Jubilee Year and the Day of Atonement speak of liberty and restoration. Both are a picture of our great redemption in Christ through the forgiveness of sin and our life everlasting… and we are further reminded that we are covered in Christ’s own righteousness and have found rest from our labour in Him. By God’s grace we are also promised to an inheritance, that is kept for us in heaven – a legacy that was lost in Eden.

PRAYER 🙏

Heavenly Father, thank You for the word you have given us. Thank You that in Christ we have already found our perfect Sabbath rest. We pray that You would increasingly open our understanding to the glorious truths contained in Your word, and give us a discerning heart to follow You, This we ask in Jesus’ name,

A lost sheep found by Jesus 🐑 ✝️

Leviticus 24:1-9

God has a fine standard. His tent’s interiors table is pure gold and the bread is made out of the best flour. We need to give God our best and generously back in our offerings. The Ark of the Covenant represents our heart and the oil in the gold lampstand is the Holy Spirit.
Do we keep the light of our lamp lit at all times? I think we should. We can only renew the oil when we spend time with God, have our Quiet Time, reading the Bible, prayer, have family prayer, go to Sunday School, AWANA, and attend the church service.

Verses 10-16

Wow! What an amazing passage! The Name of God cannot be used in vain. When we were all sinners, our penalty was death but Jesus sacrificed His blood on the cross instead of our blood. NO ONE on the earth is allowed to curse or blaspheme God or His majestic Name. Sometimes human beings think about using God’s name in vain just because they are angry, frustrated, tired, or arguing etc. Jesus died for us but that does not mean we can do anything like cursing God.

The fourth Commandment says, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Exodus 20:7
