God’s Concern

🥥 In a Nutshell 🥥

Moses was busy noting down all the rules and regulations God was giving him. There were so many particulars and specific notifications. And suddenly God revealed His compassion and concern for a particular class of people.

📖 When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field when you reap, nor shall you gather any gleaning from your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the stranger: I am the LORD your God (Lev 23:22).

God always had and has a soft corner for the poor, needy and the stranger. It is shattering to be poor and look for food from another source. God knows the hardships of the homeless and the needy. He wants His people to be compassionate and merciful to them.

Jesus Christ was moved with compassion on seeing the people struggling with their needs and troubles. He sat by the treasury and appreciated the offering of the poor widow.

Dear ones in Christ, what is our attitude towards the poor and the needy? In this COVID season have we opened our hands and heart wide to help those in need? Even now it is not too late. There are so many still struggling to make ends meet. Christian piety and charity go hand in hand. It is time for us to open our eyes and do the needful to the less fortunate.

God bless us to be channels of blessings.

Lev 23:40 Rejoice before the lord your God for seven years

Leviticus describes five feasts, all focusing on God. Each was marked by a special sacrifices to God and a sacred assembly in the tent of meeting, where God pitched His tent. Rather than giving gifts to each other, the Israelites gave gifts to God.

They rejoiced during the feast of tabernacles, everyone camped out to “rejoice before the lord for a week”.on the day of atonment, they were sober and solemn(23:26-32)It was God _ directed.

God over money Nobody worked on Israelite feast days.Israelite farmer never got a paid holiday.A holiday would cost him.It might fall on a day perfect for harvesting. But God took priority over work on sabbath day also. they had to stop working to worship.
God mattered more than wealth, prosperity came from God.

Israelite worked hard but prosperity always came from God, not from hard work or clever dealings alone. The feasts, sabbaths, set aside for special days, helped people remember and praise God who had given them so much.

He Lived among us

Leviticus 21:1 to 5 Here we see the instructions to priests regarding their role during a burial.

During Old Testament time, according to the law, priests were not supposed to make themselves unclean for people who die, unless it was a close relative.

This reminded me of a scenario in the New Testament ( John 11) where Jesus the High priest stood by the tomb of Lazarus.
John 11:35 says Jesus wept.
John 11:43 Jesus raised Lazarus from death

This is contrast to the law of Old Testament. Why did He do this ?

Jesus, was sent by the Father to make himself accessible. Contrary to the Old Testament picture of a distant God.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that gave his one and only Son, that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

His mission was break down the separation, to show the way truth life and save us
He died for us and accomplished his mission.

Today we love him because of this Love. We love him because he first loved us 1 John 4:19
