Holding the Priceless Sacrifice for the Whole World

Don’t let the Lockdown stop you from bringing your offering to God because He made it possible even for the poor… Leviticus 12:8.

🕊️One the Verse that deeply touches me is Leviticus 12:8, because it shows the heart of God to make it possible for everyone to bring an acceptable offering to Him rich or poor

🕊️And if she is not able to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons; one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’” Leviticus 12:8.

🕊️If she is not able to bring a lamb, God knew that not every family in Israel could afford to bring a lamb for sacrifice at the birth of a child. Therefore, He also allowed the lesser sacrifices of  two turtledoves or two young pigeons.

🕊️It is interesting to note that God made allowance for a woman who was poor to bring a lesser sacrifice for her cleansing as part of her purification rituals. This opened the way for Mary, mother of our Lord Jesus to bring her appropriate sacrifice corresponding to her economic status.

🕊️Jesus’ parents could only offered a pair of turtledoves, Luke 2:22-24, at His birth. This shows that Jesus did not come from a wealthy family.

🕊️Jesus’parents Mary and Joseph, had to keep the Laws concerning Purification, Circumcision and Sin Offering and Burnt Offering.

Leviticus 12:3 “And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

🕊️On the eighth day, Joseph and Mary followed these instructions at the birth of Jesus, Luke 2:21. Circumcision was the sign of the Abrahamic Covenant, Genesis 17:9-14, which was Incorporated into the Mosiac Laws.

🕊️Mary had to observe the first seven days after Childbirth as unclean days, Leviticus 12:2. For though at the end of the seven days she was in some respects free from her uncleanness, yet not altogether. After the circumcision on the eighth day, she remained unclean till the end of forty days.

🕊️The Baby Jesus, on the eighth day was named Jesus. He was not dedicated in the temple until the fortieth day.

🕊️Leviticus 12:4 “And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.”

🕊️Luke 2:22 “And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord;”

🕊️Child of God, Remember this, though Mary and Joseph could not afford to offer a sacrificial lamb, God saw them as the Perfect Parents to raise His Son, the Lamb of God as the Sacrificial Lamb who became the Sin Offering for us. Mary, could not afford a sacrificial lamb but she knew she was carrying a Living Sacrifice in her arms.

🕊️In this Lockdown just as how God made it possible for a poor mother who was unable to offer a sacrificial lamb for her purification, was made so rich by holding the Priceless Sacrifice for the Whole World in her hands, God can also provide each one of us something priceless in our challenging circumstances to bring unto Him.
