Ordination and ministry

♦️ The Ordination ♦️
Aaron and his sons were ordained. They had to bring a bull and two rams and a basket of unleavened bread. The bull was offered as a sin offering and the ram as a burnt offering. The other ram was offered for the ordination.

Moses took some anointing oil and some blood from the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his sons and on their garments. They had to cook the meat at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and eat it with the bread from the basket of ordination. For seven days they had to stay at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. Then the days of their ordination were completed.

♦️ The Ministry ♦️
They had to offer a sin offering and a burnt offering for themselves. This was followed by a sin offering and a burnt offering for the people gathered. This was followed by a grain offering and a fellowship offering.

They blessed the people and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. The Lord accepted his ministry with a miraculous fire which consumed the burnt offering.

♦️ God’s Judgment ♦️
Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron offered unauthorized fire before the Lord contrary to His commands. Disobedience led to judgement. So fire came from the presence of the Lord and consumed them and they died before the Lord.

♦️ The Food ♦️
The main reason for the laws concerning clean and unclean food was to preserve the sanctity of Israel as God’s holy people. A list of clean and unclean animals, birds, living things moving in water and creatures moving about on the ground. The holy God expected holiness from the people.
