“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’” Luke 15:4–6

Do you remember the parable of the lost sheep Jesus told in Luke 15? When the shepherd found the lost sheep, he lifted it up and laid it upon his strong shoulders. What did the sheep do? Nothing. It just consented to be rescued by the shepherd. Jesus calls this consent on the part of the sheep “repentance”—“there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance” (Luke 15:7).

God invites us to do today—to consent to be protected

That is what God invites us to do today—to consent to be protected. He wants us to be on His shoulders, in the safety of Himself as our impenetrable fortress. In this place, no predator can attack His sheep. On His shoulders, you are highly exalted above all your troubles, above all danger, all attacks, and far above all principalities and powers. Yes, far above Satan, above all the powers of darkness and the snare of the fowler. On His shoulders, you are far above every sickness, disease, and every name that is named. What a great place to be!

And does the Lord do this grudgingly? Absolutely not. The Bible tells us that the shepherd lays the sheep on his shoulders “rejoicing” (Luke 15:5). Our Lord rescues us with great joy in His heart and a big smile on His face.

Beloved, the safest place you can be today is on His shoulders. Jesus is your city of refuge. In your day of trouble, run to Him! I pray you’ll anchor your heart on the wonderful verse that encapsulates this: “The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him, who shelters him all the day long; and he shall dwell between His shoulders” (Deut. 33:12). When you make the Lord your refuge and dwelling place, you shall dwell safely in Him and no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling!

The parable of the lost son (The prodigal son) Luke 15:11-24.

To prove that there will be great rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents and comes back to God, Jesus told them the parable of the lost sheep, the parable of the lost coin and the parable of the lost son.

The parable of the lost son generally known as the parable of the prodigal son is about the younger son of a rich farmer, who demanded his property, went away and misused his property because of his sinful life. Later when he repented and came back, the father lovingly welcomed him. As there was great rejoicing in his coming back, there will be great rejoicing in Heaven when a sinner repents and comes back to God.

1. Running away from the Father’s house. Lk.15:11-16.

a. Rebellion against his loving father. He was not happy to live under his father.

b. Running away from father’s house to a far off place. Wanted to enjoy life in his way and to do whatever he wanted. 15:13.

c. Running into sinful life. Enough money and nobody to control. Lk.15:13.Read Lk.15:30 also.

d. Running into financial problems, social problems and into poverty. Lk.15:14-16.

Pigs were considered unclean by the Jews and feeding them was a very low grade job for them. He longed even for its food but couldn’t get.

B. Repentance and return to the father’s house. Lk.15:17-20

a. Realization of his present condition.
..here I am starving to death. 15:17

b. Repentance about his sinful life.

I have sinned against heaven and against you. Lk.15:18

c. Returning to his father’s house.

So he got up and went to his father. Lk.15:20a.

C. Loving father’s acts of love. Lk.15:20b.

a. Father saw him from a distance. He was anxiously waiting for him.

b. Father full of compassion.

c. Father running to his returning son.

d. Father embracing and kissing his lost son.

D. Repentance leading to return and confession which resulted in acceptance and celebration. Lk.15:21-24.

a. Confession to the loving father.
I have sinned against heaven and against you. Lk.15:21 Father accepted him without any condition.

b. Rejoicing and Celebration in the father’s house. Lk.15:22-24

..Best robe..ring on his finger…sandle on his feet..fattened calf..feast and celebrate

He was lost and is found. So they began to celebrate. Lk.15:24

Are you in a miserable condition? Please repent of your sins, go back to God and confess your sins.

God the heavenly Father, is anxiously waiting for all the sinners to repent and return to Him.

God, our Heavenly Father, will accept all those who repent of their sins, as His children and will give them a New Life.
