The Birth and Childhood of Jesus

Luke was also a doctor, and his writing reveals his great compassion for people.
Paul described Luke as “the beloved physician
” (Col. 4:14).
Luke lists both secondary sources (short accounts) and primary sources (eyewitnesses).
Luke wrote with inspiration by the Holy Spirit, but that did not keep him from gaining some of his information in a normal fashion. God guided the writers of scripture by His Spirit so that they wrote the truth He wanted written. They were supernaturally
guided in the use of sources so that they did not fall into error in what they wrote.

Trusting the Promises of God
The living God will always keep His word.
In the Old Testament
and in this chapter God made many predictions about the coming Redeemer.
The theme of promise and fulfillment in God’s dealings with man in the drama of human history thrills the heart. Our Redeemer has brought hope to the hopeless, peace to the troubled, forgiveness to the guilty, purpose to the drifting. Let us “ Praise Him.” “TO God be the glory. Great things He has done!”

The Birth and Childhood of Jesus

LUKE 2:1-52
The Messiah’s birth in Bethlehem was foretold in the eighth century B.C. by the prophet Micah (Micah 5:2). The scholars in Jerusalem directed the wise men to Bethlehem when they asked, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?”

Jesus was born in a place where animals were usually quartered because of the word manger. The inn could refer to a lodging place for travelers or even to a family’s guest chamber. What a contrast with modern well-equipped and staffed antiseptic delivery rooms! We may idealize the birth of Jesus but in reality He was born under very harsh and uncomfortable conditions. A fiction writer would not have thus portrayed the birth of a divine king.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!’’

John’s Preaching, the Baptism and Genealogy of Jesus

LUKE 3:1-38
John’s public ministry began either in A.D. 26 or 29, probably A.D. 26. In this dark period of history God sent a new prophet to be the herald for the Messiah.

In preparation for the coming Savior John demanded repentance – a change of mind toward God, away from self rule. This decision to surrender to the will of God involves turning from sin and submitting to a life of obedience to God.

Jesus was the Word, the message of God to man. John was a Voice announcing the coming of the Word and through his preaching of repentance and baptism prepared men and women to receive Jesus as Messiah, As roads were made where none existed and bad roads made better when the king was coming, John’s preaching paved the way for Christ. The quotation from Isaiah also underscored Luke’s theme of salvation through Christ available to all human beings.

Christ’s coming would separate the believer from the unbeliever, those truly repentant from the unrepentant. For those who reject Christ there awaits an eternal hell, John had preached the bad news of judgment. He did not neglect the good news of forgiveness through the coming Redeemer.

Temptation in the Wilderness

  • Luke 4:l-13
The devil is deceptive and subtle. He came in the guise of a friend giving helpful advice. He makes evil appear attractive. If does not mean he doubted Jesus’ deity, though perhaps he intended to create doubt in Jesus’ mind. He likely meant, “Since you are God’s son, it is a shame you are starving. As Lord of nature, speak the word and change the limestone rocks to pieces of bread, You have a right to live.
Why perish out here in the wilderness?’’
What was wrong with Jesus miraculously providing food for Himself as he did later for the multitudes? It would be using His miraculous powers selfishly and obeying Satan rather than the will of God.
Jesus came as a self-sacrificing servant, not as a self-indulgent
    aristocrat.

To put God to the test presumptuously was not a sign of trust in God. Jesus’ obedience to God rather than to Satan proved His trust in God. Jesus refused this suggestion to sin by quoting, “Thou shall not make trial of the Lord”
(Deut. 6:16 ASV). It is wrong to foolishly hazard one’s life in a way not required by God, yet expecting God to give special protection.

Our Lord’s prayer life gave Him strength. Prayer and temptation cannot dwell in one’s heart at the same time.
Prayer joins one with the One who has the power to overcome the tempter.

In this lockdown let us treasure and ponder on Mary’s obedience to God’s Word… Luke 2:19

🍃Mary, had to carry out everything as just as she was told by Gabriel so that the shepherds or anyone involved in God’s plan doesn’t miss out on God’s mission. How zealous are we to carry out God’s plans and purposes in this unprecedented and extended lockdown?

🍃Mary, submitted completely to God’s Word, to Deliver God’s Son, who was the Word made Flesh, even when she knew a Sword Will Pierce Her own Heart which, can be Healed Only Through the Piercing of her Son’s Body Luke 2: 35, Zechariah 12:10. Mary, had to go through the path that was chartered out for her and she knew the enormous responsibility she was carrying because it was no ordinary babe that she was carrying, she was carrying the one who will carry the sins of the whole world, Matthew 1:21.

🍃Mary, after Delivering the Deliverer, did not Deliver a Victory Speech at the Stables but she was Silently Singing in the Silent Night with the shepherds, after seeing the completion of the Fullfillment of ALL that Gabriel had said, regarding the Conception and the Birth of her Baby, Mary Pondered in her heart, Luke 2:19. Mary was well enough to wrap her own baby just the way she was asked to wrap so that it will be a sign for the shepherds, Luke 2:12.

🍃Child of God, Remember this, the Shepherds were a Social Outcasts in those days. Even David the Shepherd Boy raised in Bethlehem was ignored by his family when Prophet Samuel showed up in his home to Anoint him as the King, because he was keeping his father’s sheep in the back of nowhere,1 Samuel 16:11. These Bethlehem Shepherds were waiting for their Messiah to Deliver them from oppression and for restoring their dignity. What an honour for them to hear the Messianic Message and To Become the Messianic Messengers. God Will Use Anybody With A Receptive Heart….Amen🙏
