We need Critics too Luke-6

Luke 5:4
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
“Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught. “🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
We learn from this narrative, the necessity of human agency.
The draught of fishes was miraculous, yet neither the fisher man nor his boat, nor his fishing tackle were ignored.
But all were used to take the fishes.
So is the saving of souls, God works by means; and while the present economy of grace shall stand, God will be pleased by the
preaching to save them that believe.
When God works without instruments, boughless,
He is glorified.
He has Himself selected the plan of instrumentality as being that by which He is most magnified in the earth.
The disciples told “Master we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing”.
What was the reason for this?
They have toiled all the night.
It is because there is no power in the means of themselves apart from the presence of Jesus.
Without Him, we can do nothing.
But with Christ, we can do all things.
Christ’s presence confers success..
When Jesus is lifted in church, His presence is the Church ‘s power.

Luke 5

Jesus responds to submission (1-11). If you had fished all night and caught nothing, would you be getting ready to go out fishing again? One reason Jesus called several fishermen to be His disciples was that they never quit! Peter may have thought he knew more about fishing than Jesus did, but he did what Jesus commanded; and the Lord honored his obedient faith. No failure is final if you come to the Lord for a new start.

Jesus responds to sickness (12-14). Lepers were not to approach people; but the man came to Jesus in desperation, and Jesus healed him. The offering Jesus referred to is described in Leviticus 14 and pictures the salvation work of the Lord. Ponder it.

Jesus responds to success (15-16). The crowds sought Him, but Jesus withdrew to pray and commune with the Father. He did not allow popularity to detour Him from the Father’s will. Vance Havner said, “Success can feather our nest so comfortably that we forget how to fly.”

Jesus responds to sinners (17-39). He forgave the paralytic, Matthew the publican, and Matthew’s friends who trusted Him because He is the “friend of sinners” (Matthew 11:19). He could not forgive the scribes and Pharisees because they would not admit they were sick and in need of new clothes

Luke 6

True liberty (1-11). People who live only by “Is it lawful?” cannot understand our Lord’s principle, “Is it loving?” The scribes and Pharisees had transformed the Sabbath from a day of blessing into a day of bondage, and Jesus deliberately healed on the Sabbath so He could challenge them. It is always right to do good and to meet human need (Micah 6:8), for love fulfills the law (Romans 13:8-10).

True values (12-26). In His ordination sermon for the apostles, Jesus emphasized the true spiritual values of life in contrast to the false values of the Pharisees (Matthew 23) Comfortable living is not always Christian living.

True love (27-45). Yes, God’s people have their enemies, even as Jesus did; and we must be Christlike in the way we treat them. We must be giving and forgiving; and we must pray for them, not that God would destroy them but that He would change them. The best way to conquer an enemy is to make him a friend. Keep your heart right with God (Vs.45) and the Lord will produce the good fruit in your life.

True obedience (46-49). True obedience is not just words but deeds, and it involves hearing the Word and doing it (1Thessalonians 2:13). Judas knew the vocabulary, but he did not do the will of God; and when the storm came, his house fell.

We need Critics too Luke : 6

❇️ Woe to you when all men speak well of you for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets (v26)

❇️ This verse is part of the Sermon on the mount as recorded by St.Luke sounds strange in a world where people thrive on flattery. This strong caution from our Lord * himself needs to be seen in the *context in which he said.

❇️ Our Lord’s caution is to be seen in the context of the Old testament time when the Israelites depended more on the false prophets rather than the Godly prophets since the former prophesyied to please the itching ears of the people. This lead to the Israelites going astray

❇️ We are all expected to appreciate others for what they do or for what they are which we all consider it as a healthy attitude. But some of us overdo this by flattering people unduly when they don’t deserve. This is because we have an inner agenda of getting something in return from those whom we appreciate.

❇️ There are people on the other end of the spectrum who don’t have the habit of appreciating others even when it is due. This may be the effect of the culture they belong to or they are not sensitive enough to maintain a healthy interpersonal relationship.

❇️ We all have a need for appreciation or well spoken of. But when this need to be appreciated becomes want to be appreciated is when we are not doing a favour to us. Some of us are so desperate that if we are not appreciated we get frustrated or depressed

❇️ Our Lord warns us not to expect appreciation from everyone all the time which may puff up our ego. If we are elated by the appreciation we receive we are also likely to be deflated by the criticism we get. Hence we need a judicious mix of admirers and critics in our circle to keep our balance. It serves us well to have critics but not cynics

❇️ This does not mean we should not be appreciated but decide whose approval do we need as given below.

▪️ St.Paul asks, ” Am I now trying to win the approval of men or of God?” (Gal. 1:10).
▪️ He further says, the one whom the Lord commends is approved (2 Cor. 10:18).
▪️ Are we like the Pharisees who loved praise from men more than praise from God? (Jn.12:43)

❇️ In the light of the above verses we infer that we desire approval or praise from God rather than men.

❇️ Let us be aware of flattery and false appreciation from people all the time which may put us on cloud nine temporarily but one day it may also crash land us.

✅ Insights learnt:
▪️ Appreciation from everyone all the time is no good
▪️ Appreciation from God is to be desired.
▪️ Learn to take appreciation and criticism equally

Luke 6:43-45
No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
The scriptures often use the analogy of fruit trees and fruit to illustrate spiritual principles. Good fruit is pleasantly sweet. It is health-giving and nutritious. Each fruit is also unique.
Similarly, a good person cultivates and produces the fruits of the spirit like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The fruits of the spirit come from a heart that has been changed by God.
What can we do to produce “good fruit” in our lives?
Let’s inspect the fruit of our heart. Let our lives be rooted in God’s love and let His character be reflected in the way we love others.
