Play not God

Matthew 7

❇️ Do not judge or you too will be judged (v1)

❇️ We are all ready to be judges for others mistakes but very good lawyers for our mistakes. But we are all called to be witnesses(Acts 1:8) not judges or lawyers.

❇️ Our Lord used a strong word like hypocrites for those who are quick to judge others for the speck in their eyes while having plank in their own eyes. Both the speck and the plank are different states of the same wood and hence we are judging the same mistake in others while ignoring it in us.

❇️ Having said that, our Lord may permit us to correct others when we are free from such similar sins in our life (Mat.7:5) and by speaking the truth in love (Eph.4:15) Some of us may be Judgemental in our attitude due to the following reasons.

▪️Timepass
▪️Strong ego
▪️One-upmanship
▪️Unforgiving spirit
▪️Negative mindset
▪️Petty mindedness
▪️Self-righteousness

❇️ Rom.2:1 says, ” when we judge others we condemn ourselves since we do the same things.” Bible encourages us to judge ourselves instead of others. If we judge ourselves we will not come under judgement (1Cor.11:31).If only all of us follow this advice the church will be free from specks and planks.

❇️ Further Jesus Christ is the only righteous judge who is qualified to judge all men for two reasons

  1. He is the mediator of a new covenant by virtue of shedding his holy blood as an atonement for all our sins (Heb.12:24)
  2. Heavenly Father has entrusted all judgment to the Son (Jn.5:22)

❇️ Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time (1 Cor.4:5) when the Lord himself will judge all. Till then let us show mercy which triumphs over jugement since judgement without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful (Jam.2:13)

✅ Insights learnt:
▪️Judge nobody when guilty of same sin
▪️We condemn ourselves when we judge others
▪️Self- righteousness makes us judgemental
▪️Mercy triumphs over judgement

IF ONLY

Matthew 9:21 “She said to herself, ‘If only I touch his cloak, I will get well.’ “

🔹The woman with the issue of blood, was desperate for a cure.
🔹She had spent a fortune on physicians but her condition only worsened.
🔹Her only hope now was Jesus.
🔹She was determined not to allow this hope to extinguish.
🔹It was a now or never situation. IF ONLY…
🔹One can imagine her desperation.
🔹As she had lost a considerable amount of blood, I presume she must have been anemic with a number of complications related to it.
🔹Also I conclude that owing to the assault of blood loss, she must have been considerately weak and jaded.
🔹Yet, she was tenacious in her pursuit for healing, pushing through the overcrowded throngs, in order to receive healing from the Divine Physician.
🔹And indeed she did receive her healing.
🔹When we are broken and realise that it is God alone who can help us out, it opens up a channel of blessing from God Himself.
🔹Moreover, we need to relentlessly pursue after God when a breakthrough is desired, just like this woman.
🔹When we do so, we actually acknowledge our deficiencies allowing God to act on our behalf.

🤔 Points to ponder

▶️How relentless am I when pursuing for a breakthrough?
▶️Have I surrendered all to Jesus?

🛐
Loving Heavenly Father
Help me to realise that without you I am capable of doing nothing.
In Jesus name
Amen
