Micah 1:1

Prophet Micah was from the town of Moresheth, in southern Judah.(Micah 1:1) He was very sensitive to the social ills of his day. He prophesied between 750 BC – 686 BC. Micah stresses that God hates idolatry, injustice, rebellion and empty ritualism. He was prophesying both to Israel and to Judah. Samaria was the capital of Israel and Jerusalem was the capital of Judah.

A. Sins of the leaders Micah 3:1-3.

1. They practiced injustice. Mic.3:1.
2. They hate good and loved evil. Mic.3:2.
3. They treated the people with cruelty. 3:3.

B. Sins of the false prophets Mic.3:5.

1. They were leading people away from God. Though they knew the sins of the people, they never bothered to correct them.
2. They preached peace, when Micah was preaching destruction and captivity.

C. Sins of the leaders, priests and prophets Mic.3:9-12.

1. They despised justice and distorted truth. 3:9.
2. There was wickedness and bloodshed. 3:10.
3. Taking bribe from people to give judgements in their favour. 3:11.( Please read Isaiah 1:23; 5:23)
4. Priests teach for a price. Mic.3:11. If money was not given, priests were not available for people. (Even today, there are preachers who demand a big amount for their preaching. Many leaders demand big amounts to conduct baptism, marriage, dedication, funeral and even for prayer. Their service won’t be available to the poor who can’t afford their big fees).
5. Prophets tell fortunes for money. Mic.3:11.According to the amount, the content of the prophesy changes. (Please read Hosea 4:8,18; Jer.7:4; Ezekiel 34:2)….” Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us. 3:11. Giving false hopes.

D. Prophesy about the fall of Israel
“Therefore I will make Samaria a heap of rubble.” Mic.1:6.
“All this … because of the sins of the house of Israel.” Mic.1:5.

That became a reality in 722/721 BC, when Assyrians destroyed Israel and took them as captives to Assyria. (Please read 2 Kings 17:6 and Ezekiel 13:14)

E. Prophesy about the destruction of Jerusalem.

Jerusalem will become like a heap of rubble, the temple hill a mound.. Mic.3:12.
That became a reality in 586 BC when Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem and took them as captives to Babylon. (Please read Jeremiah 52).

F. Prophesy about Jesus

But you, Bethlehem, Ephrathah…out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from old, from ancient times.” Mic.5:2.
Ephrathah- the region in which Bethlehem was located.
Origins are from old – His beginnings were much earlier than His human birth. (see John 8:58)
from ancient times – within history. (see Isaiah 9:6,7).
Centuries later, at the birth of Jesus, that prophesy also became a reality.

Are we leading a life pleasing to the Lord in all areas of our life?

🤴The King of Gods Kingdom🤴

Micah Chapter 5

“📖 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”- Micah 5:2

Micah speaks of a king.

Who is this king?
Can we identify him?

We will notice two things about this king.
1️⃣ First, He will come ‘out of’ Bethlehem (v. 2).
2️⃣ Second, His ‘origins are from of old, from ancient times’ (v. 2).

‘Who is this, whose birthplace is Bethlehem, yet whose origins preceded His birth?’

🤴It is none other than JESUS of Nazareth, the CHRIST — the MESSIAH, the ‘ANOINTED ONE’ — of GOD.
Whom shall this King serve?
🤴God says through Micah in our text for today, ‘Out of you [Bethlehem] will come for me one who will be ruler…’ (Micah 5:2, emphasis added). One who will be ruler for me!
🤴Earthly rulers — many of them — arrange things to their own benefit.
🤴But our King, our beloved Jesus, has not and will not seek his own advantage.
🤴All He does, He does for the Father. ‘He rules for Me,’ God says. And clearly it is so.

What is it that The King will do?
🤴Micah had said of Him, ‘His greatness will reach to the ends of the earth’ (5:4).

1️⃣ This is the first thing our great King will do. He will rule.
2️⃣And as he rules, he will restore his people’s hope.
3️⃣He will embody the hope of his people.
4️⃣He will protect us. (5:4, 5)
5️⃣ My King ‘will proclaim peace to the nations.
6️⃣ *His rule will extend from sea to sea’ *(Zech. 9:10).

♥️ LIFE LESSONS
💥This is our King! This is our Jesus! He will rule over us. He will restore us. And He will protect us.
💥God has established Jesus as King over all the earth.

*What are you and I to do with this proclamation?
