Balaam and his Oracles 🔊

First Oracle

Balak took Balaam to Bamoth Baal from where he saw part of Israel. He asked him to build seven altars and to offer a bull and a ram on each altar. Then Balaam went aside to hear God’s words. He returned and in his Oracle he only blessed Israel. Balak was disappointed. Balaam said he could only speak what God puts in his mouth.

Second Oracle

Next Balak took Balaam to the top of Pisgah and he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar. Again the Lord spoke to Balaam. He told Balaam God is not a man that He should lie nor a son of man that He should change His mind. Balaam had received a command to bless and he did not change.

Third Oracle

Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor. Again seven altars were built and a bull and a ram were offered on each altar. Again the Lord asked him to bless Israel. Balak was very angry and said that Balaam can go home and he will receive no reward. Balaam did not care for a reward but before he left he told him what Israel would do to his people.

Fourth Oracle

Balaam said that Israel would crush the Moabites. Edom and Seir would be conquered. The Amalakites and the Kenites also would be ruined. He said it was God who was fighting the battle for Israel. So no one can live. The enemies of Israel would be ruined.

God is unchanging Number 23:1-30

Balak- the king of Moab wanted the prophet Balaam to curse the Israelites so they couldnot overrun his country. Even though Balaam was a false prophet who once needed a donkey to tell him the right thing to do, he occasionally spoke the truth.

Balaam told Balak that God had decided to bless the Israelites and nothing he could do change God”s mind.Num 23:19. The fact that God is unchanging is one of his most awesome qualities. When God says He loves you, He means it.When He offers forgiveness, He won’t back out. Our God is the same, yesterday and today and forever.Heb 13:8
