Promise must be promise; getting ready to enter Canaan

VERSE OF THE DAY 📜

📖
When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said. – Numbers 30:2
📖

God places great importance on the words that come out of our mouths. Here in Numbers it says everything a person says is important: “all that proceeds out of his mouth.”
Here we find this to be true about all vows that are made.

The heart, mind, and mouth must all be in agreement. And when they are all in agreement, God listens and so do other people. God is emphasizing the fact that what we say really does matter.

The Apostle Paul picked up on this theme when he said: that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9 –10).

How do we believe on Jesus Christ? Paul says it is “with our hearts.” What do we do when we believe in our hearts? We are to “confess with our mouths.” We are to make a vow, which is what confessing with our mouths means. It is a verbal testimony, a statement of what we believe in our hearts to be true.

The two are connected; the mouth must sing in harmony with what the heart believes. CONFESSION has to do with agreeing with a subject. When we confess that Jesus is Lord, we are agreeing with what God says about Jesus, and with what Jesus says about Himself.

PRAYER 🙏

Heavenly father thank you for the word you have given us. LORD, we want to speak the truth this day in agreement with what our hearts know to be right. May our words be filled with Your power and Your authority so that others may come to know You though our lives,
In Jesus name we pray
Amen

Getting ready to enter Canaan

Thirty eight years after the first census, a second census is taken.During the great exodus from Egypt to Canaan, the Israelites lost the entire adult population, with the exception of Moses, Caleb and Joshua.

Census done, it is time for apportionment of the land as they enter Canaan, as promised by the LORD.

1️⃣Ch.27
✳️The daughters of Zelophehad make a claim for their father’s share , since he has left no sons.( 1-4)
✳️Moses open-minded. Takes the matter to the LORD.His attitude of dependence.

✳️The LORD’s answer (6-11) lays down the guidelines that the land should be kept in small holdings and passed on along hereditary lines( Ref.Ch.36: 1-13)
No inheritance may pass from tribe to tribe.( Ch.36:9)

✳️Moses- a good spiritual leader.
The LORD granting Moses a good view of the Promised Land(12)
In Ch. 20, we see the LORD punishing Moses for his disobedience ( Moses striking the rock for water and taking credit- ‘We bring you water out of the rock’.)by forbidding him from entering the Promised Land.

✳️ Moses is prepared to hand over leadership. (16-18)Moses requests the LORD to appoint another leader. ‘ so that the LORD’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.’
It needs divine wisdom to make the right choice.

✳️Joshua is commissioned. ‘A man in whom is the spirit’.(18)

✳️Joshua is consecrated.
2️⃣Ch.28
Acceptable worship is the one offered with reverence and true awe.
Need to prepare our hearts for worship.

✳️Corporate worship is a matter of shared joy and celebration.
✳️Regular, daily sacrifice (3-8)
✳️Weekly, Sabbath day offerings. (9-10)
✳️Monthly rituals(11-15)
✳️Special festivals like the Passover (16-25)
✳️Other special sacrifices.
All these are done in the context of ‘offering to the LORD that which is His by right ‘.
✳️Sacrifices are needed to remind us of the necessity of cleansing ourselves from sin.
3️⃣Ch.30
It is all about being faithful in making vows and being faithful in fulfilling them.
✳️No one is forced to make vows. But it is obligatory to fulfill the vow.
✳️An offering along with the vow makes it binding.( 1,2)
✳️Provision is made for parents/ elders to overrule children’s vows, if they are made foolishly.
That is to say, elders need to be trusted, their advice sought to protect themselves from trouble.
✳️An elder is warned against taking the vows of his children lightly. They become answerable for negligence.(15)These promises are made to the LORD ; therefore should be treated as our commitments.

Every worship is an expression of gratitude to God and our joy in glorifying Him.
