A cheerful heart is a good medicine

🕯️ The Book of Proverbs 🕯️

Proverbs 13 – From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things. But the unfaithful crave for violence. He who guards his lips guards his life. He who speaks rashly will come to ruin. The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace. He who scorns instruction will pay for it but he who respects a command is rewarded.

Every prudent man acts out of knowledge, but a fool exposes his folly. He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame but whosoever heeds correction is honoured. A good man leaves inheritance for his children. But a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Proverbs 14 – A wise woman builds her house. But the foolish tears it down with her own hands. He whose walk is upright fears the Lord but the wicked despise her. A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies. The wise always give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception. The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright shall flourish.

The faithless shall be repaid for their ways, but a good man is rewarded for his. A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil but a fool is reckless. Those who plot evil go astray, but those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. A truthful witness saves lives but a false witness is deceitful. The fear of the Lord is the fountain of life. A faithful man has great understanding. Whoever is kind to the needy honours God.

Proverbs 15 – A gentle answer turns away wrath. But a harsh word stirs up anger. The eyes of the Lord watch over the wicked and the good. A tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases Him. A discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.

Better a little with fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil. A man finds joy in giving an apt answer. A timely word is too good. A greedy man brings trouble to his family, but he who hates bribes will live. The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayers of the righteous. Whosoever heeds corrections gains understanding. Humility comes before honour.

Proverbs 16 – Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed. Through fear of the Lord man avoids evil. When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord he makes even his enemies to live at peace with him. In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Pleasant words are like a honey comb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Better is a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.

Proverbs 17 – The Lord tests the heart of the people. He who mocks the poor shows contempt to their Maker. Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam, so drop the matter before a dispute breaks up.

A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. A foolish son brings grief and bitterness to his parents. Silence is golden. A man of understanding is even tempered.
