Rooted in God’s Character

📖 Psalm 101

The psalmist in today’s passage writes “the king’s pledge to reign righteously” which is beautifully recorded in 2Kings 23:3. He does not make half-hearted promises, rather he expresses a strong determination to live a godly life and responsibly represent God to his people.

📌 The psalmist @ king David , made a commitment to live according to the Lord’s Standard Values .
1️⃣ Commitment to lead a blameless life (v 2a)
The psalmist vows to be careful to live a life of integrity, a life that is above all reproach.

2️⃣ Commitment to run the affairs of his house with integrity (v 2b)
Our integrity is clearly revealed in how we conduct the affairs of our house (1Tim 3:4)
📌 If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church ?

3️⃣ Commitment not to approve anything that is vile (v 3a)
When we discipline our mind with God’s Word and commit ourselves to follow his way, we volunteer ourselves to hate what is evil .

4️⃣ Commitment not to associate with evildoers (v 3b-4)
The psalmist not only disapprove the evil actions of the evildoers but he also vows not to associate with them.

5️⃣ Commitment to silence Slanderers (v 5)
Slander separates close friends, creates dissension among neighbours and disrupts peace in a society. The psalmist vows that he will take strong action against the slanderers.

6️⃣ Commitment to protect and associate with the faithful (v 6)
The psalmist wants to surround himself with upright people (who are commited to God)

7️⃣ Commitment to shun the Deceitful (v 7)
The commitment to associate with the upright will automatically lead one to shun those who practices deceit or speaks falsely.

8️⃣ Commitment to purge out the wicked (v 8)
The psalmist vows to silence the wicked and cut off evildoers. On the other hand he vows to administer justice every day.

📝 Paul exhorts us to “.. continue to live in Christ, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith and over-flowing with thankfulness” (Col 2:6-7)

💞 Beloved Church, may the Psalmist’s 8 fold Commitment be a model for all the leaders whether in our church, society and home.
✅ If our leaders shared this same commitment then our nation/societies would not rank near the top list of most corrupted country/state/society.
✅ If our Church leaders shared this same commitment then we would not hear the reports of greed, division of churches, misappropriation of funds and other issues/allegations.

🙏 Praise God that there are still faithful church leaders , missionaries and laymen who could honestly recite this psalm 🙌
Are you amongst them ❓

Glory to God 🙌
