The book of Psalms is an edited book

Psalm 1:2 “But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.”

The book of Psalms is an edited book.
It is arranged in a certain way as five sub-books in an order.

This means that Psalm 1 and 2, were placed at the beginning of the book of Psalms on purpose to serve as an introduction.

In Psalm 1:2 we are told to “meditate on the law day and night.”

The Bible talks about meditating on God’s Word and His laws throughout Scripture.

When we hear the word “meditate” we might have images of sitting cross-legged with the eyes closed.

That’s not the kind of meditation that is talking here.

The Hebrew word hagah is the word used here.
This is the same word used when a lion is eating its prey.

It is not a passive kind of meditation. It’s an active kind of digging in and fully engaging with the subject.

In a secular context, meditation is associated with emptying the mind and relaxing the body.
Biblical meditation isn’t an emptying of our mind but rather a filling of it with God’s Word.

God is instructing us to dig in and focus, to ask questions and fully take in his Word.

Then, in verse 3, it gives us three illustrations of a happy person.
The first one is that the person who delights in the Word of God and meditates on it day and night will be “like a tree firmly planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season.”

The second one is that the person who delights in the Word of God and meditates on it day and night will be like a tree whose “leaf does not wither.”

And the third is that the person who delights in the Word of God and meditates on it day and night “will prosper in all that he does.”

Too often people focus on their problems instead of meditating on God’s promises.
As they do, their problems seem to get bigger, and God’s power diminishes.

Sometimes, the reason why we give up or feeling hopeless is because of forgetting who our God is and what can He do for us.

Our God is Omnipresent, He’s always with us. He is Omniscient, He knows everything good for us and He is Omnipotent, He is all powerful that nothing He cannot do.

So let’s meditate on His works and there’s no reason for us to be disconnected on Him.
