King of Judah

๐Ÿ‘‘ Josiah king of Judah ๐Ÿ‘‘
Josiah did right in the sight of the Lord and walked in all the ways of his father David. He was 8 years old when he began to reign and he reigned for 31 years. The first work he did was to repair the temple of God. Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law in the temple.

When the book was read Josiah tore his clothes because of the anger of God against His people who had disobeyed Him and His plans to destroy them. So Josiah sent his men to Prophetess Huldah. She said, because Josiah humbled himself and tore his clothes he would have a peaceful death and his eyes would not see all the disaster the Lord was going to bring upon the people.

Josiah gathered all the elders to the temple and renewed the covenant. From the temple all the articles for Baal, Asherah and the starry hosts were removed and burnt outside Jerusalem. He did away from the pagan priests and broke down the shrines. No one could sacrifice their son or daughter. The horses dedicated to the sun were removed and their chariots were burnt.

Everything connected with idolatory were smashed down. The Passover was celebrated which had not been celebrated for a number of years. Josiah turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul and all his strength. Josiah was killed at Megiddo in a battle against the king of Egypt.

Jehoahaz was 23 years old when he became king and he did evil in God’s sight. He was carried off to Egypt and he died.

Jehoiakim rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar. The Lord sent various kings to destroy Judah for the way Manasseh filled Jerusalem with innocent blood.

Jehoiachin became the next king. He also did evil in God’s sight. The king of Babylon took him as prisoner. He also removed all the treasures from the temple of the Lord and the palace. Thousands of soldiers and craftsmen also were deported to Babylon.

When Zedekiah was king Nebuchadnezzar marched against Jerusalem. The city was kept under siege. Then a severe famine hit the city. The whole army fled at night through the gate near the king’s garden. The Babylonians pursued and captured the king and the army was scattered. They killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. Then they put out his eyes, bound him and took him to Babylon.

Later Nebuchadnezzar his commander and officials came to Babylon. The temple, the royal palace all the houses and important buildings were burned down. The walls around Jerusalem were broken. The people who remained were carried into exile. All the important articles in the temple were plundered. All the priests, chief officer and his sixty men and the secretary were taken to Babylon and executed.
