My father is king

Judges 9:56 “Thus God repaid the wickedness of Abimelech, which he had done to his father by killing his seventy brothers.”

Chapter 9 opens with Abimelech, the son of Gideon through one of Gideon’s concubines.

Chapter nine is a tragic tale of abuse, corruption, and suffering.

Abimelech was a man who did what was right in his own eyes, and he lived among people who did what was right in their own eyes.

Abimelech means, “My father is king.”

This name may have provoked some selfish ambition within Abimelech.
He murdered his brothers. Seventy brothers were put to death.
Is the one virus that causes all the moral diseases of the world.

The only thing necessary to change heaven into hell —- is selfishness.

Selfishness is mankind’s fundamental defect.
Selfish means: self-centered, self-serving, self-important.
At the root of every problem is selfishness.
In our heart of hearts, is there anyone we envy?
If so, repent and submit to the Lord’s plan for our life.
Ask Him to get us where He wants us to be.

When we fully submit, He will take us to heights we could never go to alone.
He will never forsake us.
In humility regard others as better than yourselves.

Ask God to search our heart, that we might be freed from these corrupting influences.
