Psalm 63
❇️ In this Psalm David mentioned his soul thrice
▶️ My soul thirsts for you (v1)
▶️ My soul will be satisfied as with marrow and fatness (v5)
▶️ My soul follows hard after you (8)

This shows David’s heightened soul consciousness in his difficult times in the desert of Judah.

❇️ When God formed man from the dust he breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul (Gen.2:7). Thus we are primarily a soul having a body instead of body having a soul.

❇️ In this world people are more conscious of their body than their soul. Billion dollar industry of cosmetics with face creams, body lotions, perfumes, spas & salons etc are the proof of the body consciousness of the modern society. Irony is that people give greater care to their body than to their soul.

❇️ While the bodily thirst can be quenched by water the thirst of the soul can be quenched only by the living water .

❇️ While bodily hunger can be satisfied by bread the hunger of the soul can be satisfied only by the heavenly manna namely the word of God.

❇️ While the body follows after the fleshly lusts the soul follows the Lord and hence there is a constant war between the body and the soul.

Are we body conscious or soul conscious?

❇️ Let us learn from the word of God about the soul which might change us from body conscious to soul conscious.

▶️ Redemption of the soul is precious (Ps.49:8)
▶️ God redeems the soul from the grave (Ps.49:15)
▶️ Soul can be humbled with fasting (Ps.35:13)
▶️ God forgives people if they return to him with all their souls (I Kings 8:48)
▶️ Man can’t kill the soul (Mat. 10:28)
▶️ Fleshly lusts war against the soul (1 Pet. 2:11)
▶️ Soul that sins shall die (Eze.18:4)
▶️ Eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him to deliver their soul from death (Ps. 33:19)
▶️ When we incline our ears to hear the Lord our souls will live (Isa.55:3)

✅ Insights learnt:
▪️We are a living soul
▪️Redemption of soul is precious
▪️Soul is humbled with fasting
▪️Fleshly lusts war against the soul
▪️Soul will live when we incline our ears to the Lord
▪️Need to become soul conscious

My salvation comes from Him Ps 62:1

King David expects to get salvation only from God. No where else. The kind of salvation, David needs is a rescue from enemies.They use lies and curses to topple himBut David has a reason to trust God.

For the godly every adversity in life is an occasion for growth in trust 62:8. They are not afraid but grow more confident. Power belongs to you and with you. Lord is unfailing love62:11_12

If David had confidence that God would save him from earthly enemies, we can be even be surer that God will give us an even bigger salvation _ rescue from sin and a forever home in heaven.

Apostle Peter says: Salvation is found in noone else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved Acts 4:12
