David was anointed as the future king of Israel

1 Samuel 22:1-10 “So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam

David was anointed as the future king of Israel .
God promised great things to David.
David was brought into King Saul’s service.
He defeated the enemy Goliath.
He forged a friendship with Saul’s son, Jonathan.
Saul gave him a high rank in the army.
God was with David in everything he did,, and all the people of Israel and Judah loved him.
David even married the king’s daughter, Michal.
Everything was falling into place for David to become the next king of Israel.

But Now………His world has turned upside down……….

Can we imagine David sobbing in the cave!!!

He is in a dark, damp, dreary, depressing cave.
He has experienced the loss of everything and everyone, he leaned on in his life.

He is alone, defeated and discouraged.

David is in one of the cave experiences of life.
It was all unfair, the injustice of it all.

There are times when we too find ourselves in one of life’s cave experiences.
We think all of our help and strength is gone.
We feel alone, discouraged and deserted.

In Psalm 142:1, I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy.
There is nothing better for the soul than a good cry.
Tears are prayers too. They travel to God when we can’t speak.
Why did God allow David to come to this cave?

David was taught, through his sufferings, to wholly lean upon the Lord, not to lean on the props of family, friends, finances, fame, the flesh or the future.

In that humble hide away, God began the process of transforming David into a great king.

The cave refined David’s life and helped to prepare him for the tasks that lay ahead. He grew in that cave because he submitted to the cave.

David entered his cave a broken and defeated man. He emerged as the captain of an army of mighty men.

What about us?
Are our cave experiences blessings to our life, or are they burdens that seem too heavy to carry?

God created our feelings.
He understands them better than anyone else on the planet.
Tell Him all our feelings.
Step out in faith and cry out.
God will surely honor us.
