Tears of Metanoia move the heart of God

Matthew : 26

❇️ When Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times” he went outside and wept bitterly(v75)

❇️ Peter’s weeping bitterly must have accompanied with tears, was a sign of his repentence. The prerequisite for forgiveness is repentence which is turning from sin.In Greek the word for repentence is Metanoia which means after- thought.

❇️ An after-thought is generally a changed thought. If in our after-thought we realize we have committed a sin or a mistake then it brings with it regret and remorse which leads us to make amends.

❇️ Unlike Judas Iscariot who did not repent to receive the forgiveness from the Lord, Peter though he was guilty of denial which was as bad as betrayal received forgiveness since he repented by weeping bitterly which is in line with 1Jn.1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.

❇️ Particularly our tears of metanoia move the heart of our Lord to forgive us as the Psalmist says in 56:8 ” You put my tears in your bottle”

❇️ Though weeping is considered a sign of weakness it is also a sign of determination to force a favourable decision as used by some. But it is also a desire to turn a new leaf by making amends for the wrong we have done as we see in the life of saints like David, Peter etc.

❇️ We infer from Peter’s case and many times in the case of Israelites God is inclined to forgive us when we truly repent for our sins with tears of metanoia

❇️ This is a lesson for us to go before the Lord with tears of metanoia for our sins and the world’s at a time like now when a pandemic is causing havoc in the world.

❇️ Let us realize sin is an all time pandemic whose consequences only God can heal by his forgiveness. The righteous cry and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles(Ps.34:17)

When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. (Matthew 26:12)

She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time (Mark 14:8)

Throughout the Bible we see that Anointing Oil was poured upon a person to fulfill Godly calling in their lives.

Divine Power manifests in the lives of the people once they are anointed.

Priests and Kings were anointed in the Bible days. For example Aaron was anointed by Prophet Moses to carry out the calling of a High Priest. King Saul and King David were anointed by Prophet Samuel for kingship.

Lord Jesus was anointed :
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18)

The woman anointed the Lord Jesus to carry out a very specific purpose,to fulfill the final purpose on this earth – Death on the Cross

The anointing was done by a very expensive perfume, as the price the Lord Jesus was going to pay for this calling was an expensive one.

The anointing oil carried a sweet fragrance indicating the acceptable sacrifice that the Lord Jesus was going to make on the altar of the Cross.

Lord Jesus also said that, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her because God chose her to anoint Lord Jesus for the high calling of crucifixion. She prepared the Lord’s body for the high calling.

That’s why where ever the Gospel is preached, the holy work the woman did will be announced.

Let us ask God to anoint us for our Holy Calling. Let us be obedient to our calling as Lord Jesus was

God Bless You
