Children of Isreal should dwell in booths during the feast

Nehemiah 8:14 – “And they found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Isreal should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month.

Ezra the scirbe brought the Law of Moses before the children of Isreal and the Law was read out to the people. The children of Isreal now in their land listening to the Law of Moses sensed and understood the reading (8:8). The people with a heart of repentence, wept when the heard the words of the Law (8:9).

In vs 11-12; we read the Levites comforting the people saying 11;”Be still, for the day is holy; do not vbe grieved.” And in verse 12; And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.

Well, most of us, infact myself are very familiar upto this process of understanding the Word of God.

Reading the Word👉 Understanding our shortcommings from the light of the Word👉Weeping and repenting👉Going home happy because of the understood Word.

But the children does not stop there, the second they again gather to unearth the truths of the Law and in vs 14; ‘And they found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Isreal should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month’

So in the light of their understanding of the Law we read in vs17; So the whole assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and sat under the booths.

They not only heard the Word but also did according to the Word (James 1:22-25).

It was not easy to acutually do as per the Word, It is not that to follow the Word they didnt had to do anything we see in vs16; ‘Then the people went out and brought them and made themselves booths, each one on the roof of his house or in their courtyards or thr courts of the house of God..’. Well they certainly had a cost to pay!

And the result of this- in vs17; last part we read ‘And there was very great gladness.’

Aligning ourselves to the Word of God is not easy for it requires the rejection of world, flesh and Satan which is not easy. But by help of the Holy Spirit indwelling in us, we can victory over these!

We learn from the parable of sower, Matt 13: 23; “But he who received seed on good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hunderfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

May be Lord enable us to be the doers of His Word, not just hearers. Praise be to His Name!
