The rise and fall of Jeroboam

The word of the Lord came to Mrs Jeroboam through Ahijah the prophet concerning King Jeroboam: “I have raised you up from among the people and made you a leader over my people Israel..” 1Kings 14: 6- 7

📝 Jeroboam was highly favoured by God
🔖 God choose him to rule over the northern kingdom (ten tribes)

🔖 Jeroboam was given the chance to be another David (“… you will be king over Israel. If you do.. as David did… I will build you as a dynasty.. as David ” 11:37-38)

🔖 Jeroboam failed to stand firm to the divine calling.

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to MAKE YOUR CALLING and ELECTION SURE. For if you do these things, YOU WILL NEVER FALL, and you will receive a RICH WELCOME into the ETERNAL KINGDOM of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ 📕 2Peter 1:10-11

📝 Jeroboam was oversmart (1Kings 12:25-33)
🔖 From DAY 1 Jeroboam suspected that his people may readily revert to the house of David because of the Religious Beliefs and Practices of the undivided Israel (v 26-27) Temple, Prayers, Sacrifices, Offerings and Annual Festivals were the main issues.

🔖 Jeroboam made an alternative to the temple at Bethel and Dan (“It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem” v 28)

🔖 Jeroboam made two golden calves and placed them at Bethel and Dan (” Here are your gods… who brought you up out of Egypt ” v 28-29)

🔖 Jeroboam built shrines on high places and appointed priests even though they were not levites (v 31)

🔖 Jeroboam instituted a festival on the 15th day of 8th month (v 32-33)

📌 Jeroboam was successful to lead the Israelites to celebrate the festival at the WRONG TIME in the WRONG PLACE to offer sacrifices and offerings on the WRONG ALTAR to false gods.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING ; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make YOUR PATHS straight 📕 Proverbs 3:5-7

📝 Downfall of Jeroboam
🔖 Jeroboam led the people into idol worship, and all this became a sin against the Lord (1Kings 12: 28-33)

🔖 God’s word came to Jeroboam through a prophet (1Kings 13:32-34) and also through Ahijah (1Kings 14:1-18) but he did not change his evil ways.

🔖 God gave 22 years to Jeroboam to Rule, to Retreat, to Repent and to Reconsider his ways but he failed miserably and finally his whole family was killed (1Kings 14:20 ; 15:29-30)

💞 Beloved Church, Jeroboam’s impression as the “one who led the Israelites in idol worship” became a lasting impression in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel.
May our impression to the world be in Christ Jesus – deeply rooted and built up.
May our FIRST LOVE remains same till HE COMES.

Glory to God 🙌
