Destruction and Rest ➿

The Book of Chronicles end mentioning destruction at one side and rest on the other hand. The Temple of the Lord was set on fire. The articles from the Temple of the Lord both large and small and the treasures of the temple were all taken to Babylon (2 Chronicles 36:18, 19).

The temple was raided and ultimately burnt. How hard it must have been for few faithful ones to see their place of worship destroyed. Don’t we all yearn for the glorious day when we could freely go to worship the Lord. It’s true that we participate in online services. Yet it can never replace physical gathering.

Jerusalem the glorious city of David was utterly destroyed and its walls broken. The palaces were burned and everything valuable was destroyed. Desolation and destruction was everywhere and the city lay in ruins.

On the other hand the land enjoyed its sabbath rest for seventy years. The Israelites failed to observe the sabbath rules of the land. And God gave the land the needed sabbath rest while the city was in desolation (2 Chro 36:21).

All this happened because the leaders, priests and the people became more and more unfaithful to the Lord. They followed all the detestable practices of the nations and defiled the temple of the Lord (2 Chro 36:14).

Dear ones in Christ, let this be a warning signal to us. We need to be careful lest we provoke the wrath of God. Let our lives be aligned with the Word of God. We need to pay attention to His Word and live accordingly. Never take God’s love and compassion for granted.

God bless us to be channels of blessings.
