Yahweh – whatever I am, I will be

Exodus 34:6-7 “The LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty , visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

In Exodus 34:6. “The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The LORD, the LORD…’”

Notice it’s L-O-R-D.
The literal Hebrew for L-O-R-D is a word that is pronounced Yahweh.
That’s God’s name. Yahweh.

Yahweh means ‘whatever I am, I will be.

Here the Verses 6-7 reveal the true character of God found throughout all Scripture.

God tells Him that:
📍He’s a God of mercy (refraining from giving to others what they do deserve);
📍He’s a God of grace (giving to others that which they don’t deserve);
📍He is slow to anger (ever-so patient with stiff-necked sinners);
📍He is forgiving (pardoning us of our sins and not holding them against us); and
📍He is just (rightly punishing sin and not just overlooking it as if it never happened).

Here we will see that Jesus Christ is the exact representation of the very description that we read in the above verses..

📍 On the cross, we see a demonstration of who God is.
📍On the cross, we see that God is full of compassion and grace toward us.
📍On the cross,we see that God is full of steadfast love and faithfulness toward us.
📍On the cross, we see that God is full of forgiveness toward us.

❓Have we ever felt like we had to walk on eggshells around someone? Someone with no patience, no grace, always with a grudge?

Because of our God’s nature, we never have to walk on eggshells around Him.

His love and forgiveness are far greater than anything we will experience here on Earth.

We are invited to come to Him just as we are.
