Beware of Pride, Pride Leads to Fall
📖📖 Bible in 270 Days 📖📖
Genesis *11-16 17.7.2020
📣 Beware of Pride 📣 🔸 Pride Leads to Fall 🔸
The survivors of the flood and their descendants had one language and a common speech. At Babel the rebellious people undertook a united godless effort to prove that he was too great and could dominate God’s creation. They planned to build a tower that could reach to the heavens and to make a name for themselves. The united proud attempt of the whole human race would make the kingdom of man displace and exclude the Kingdom of God.
🔸 No Human Power Can Defy God 🔸
God saw the wicked defiance of man. So He decided to confuse their language so that they would not understand each other. So the building was stopped and they were scattered over the face of the whole earth.
📣 Call of Abraham 📣
Prompt obedience grounded in faith characterized Abram. God asked Abram to leave his country and go to the land he would show. Abraham left with Sarai his wife, Lot his brother and all their possessions. As he travelled he built altars in several places and worshipped the Lord. He was very God fearing.
🚸 Others First 🚸
Abram was very generous. Lot and Abram had too many flocks and the water and pasture for them was not enough for the animals. So Lot and Abram had to separate. Abram was very generous and asked his nephew to choose the land he wanted. He chose the well watered plains of Jordan and lived near Sodom among the wicked people. Abram lived in the land of Canaan.
🚸 Abram Rescues Lot 🚸
The king of Sodom went to war against the king of Elam. As the valley of Siddim was filled with tar pits. The king of Sodom and his men fled to the mountains and some of them fell into the pits. The army of Elam seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah. They also carried away Lot and his possessions. When Abram heard about this he went against them with his trained men and recovered everything and brought back his relative Lot with all his possessions. On his way back he met Melchizedek King of Salem who blessed him. Abram gave him a tenth of every thing. God made a covenant with Abram that He would give him the Land of Canaan as his possession.
🔸 Impatience Led to Bitterness 🔸
Sarai impatience implied that God was not keeping to His promise. Sarai would herself solve the the problem of her barrenness by giving Hagar as wife to Abram. Hagar conceived and began to despise her mistress. So Sarai in bitterness mistreated her and she fled from her. An angel met her in the desert and told her to go back to her mistress. Hagar confessed, O Lord you are the one who sees me. She went back and bore a son and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son.
