There is enough evidence that the Word of God is true

In this lockdown let us be so renewed in our minds that God is Good even if the Pandemic situation is bad… Nahum 1:7.

🍃 The Book of Nahum is a continuation of the Book of Jonah. Jonah preached Repentance and Nahum preached Judgement. After Jonah’s message Nineveh was brought to repent in dust and ashes, and they had a revival. After 150 years, Nahum came with God’s message because they went back to their wicked ways. Since they did not heed to the mercy of God, they had to be judged and totally annihilated by the armies of Sennacherib, 50 years after Nahum’s preaching.

🍃 This Book was written to assure the people of Judah who were living in fear and desperation of the Syrian Army who had already invaded Judah. Nahum appears in the middle of their desperation to offer the good news that God will be true to His character and judge in fairness.

🍃 Nineveh boasted of being a superpower in her days. But she was so completely destroyed that when Alexander the Great went across her streets with his army, he didn’t even know that there existed a city earlier in its place! The impregnable walls of Nineveh could not prevent the judgement from happening.

🍃 History has proven the fulfilment of Nahum’s prophecy. The Medes and the Babylonians conquered the city and subsequently destroyed it, a well fortified Assyrian Capital. The floods of the Tigris River literally destroyed the walls of Nineveh, which gave easy access to the invading army, as predicted in Nahum 1:8 and 2:6.

🍃 There is enough evidence that the Word of God is true and the Bible Prophecies was being fulfilled, and this has been supported by historical and archaeological studies. This is why we got to heed to the warnings of Jesus and encourage every believer to read and obey the Word of God in the New Testament, by showing the events of the Old Testament prophetic fulfilment through current research.

🍃 Nahum, in Hebrew, means comforter. In chapter 1 the prophet describes the character of God in giving Nineveh a fair judgement. He is slow to anger and great in power, Nahum 1:3. In the New Testament we read about the fishing village of Capernaum, in Galilee, which means the village of Nahum, which many believe was named after the prophet. In fact, Jonah and Nahum are from Galilee, the inheritance of Naphtali and Zebulun, and so was Hosea.

🍃 In this Lockdown, let us learn from this little book, That God Is Good to His People and He Will Defend Them From Their Enemies, Being a Refuge in Times of Trouble, Nahum 1:7. He may permit us to experience all kinds of antagonism from ungodly people now and then. But His protective love will allow no one to get away with attacking us. As long as we love our enemies and bless those who curse us, according to His Will, He will do what He has to do on our behalf. We don’t have to retaliate or take revenge. Only God can execute judgement with fairness, Luke 6:27-28, Romans 12:9-10.

🍃 Child of God, Remember this, whether or not He chooses to deliver us from those who afflict us, we can be confident that we will eventually celebrate and ascribe to His greatness, His righteous and just ways, Psalm 96:7,13. God is Good, all the time; even when bad things are happening. He didn’t want to destroy Nineveh. So he sent a reluctant Jonah and a responsive Nahum, in His own time. Let’s not be caught with His “Time-up”! We were given His Word, His Holy Spirit and ‘Anointed and Appointed Leaders’ for us, to grow up in His knowledge and grace (2 Peter 1:1-3) in this Lockdown, which has given us so much extra time and space… Amen.

Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He cares for those who trust in him.”

The book of Nahum is all about the destruction that was about to befall the evil city of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria.

The people of Nineveh were not honoring God.
They had repented before, but had fallen back to their old ways.

Nahum reminded the people that God was in power and had sovereignty over them.

Nahum also reminded the people that ……….
God is good.
He is one to be trusted.
He is one who cares about us.and that
When trouble comes we can seek Him and find refuge in Him.
We can have hope in Him.

The word for “cares” means that He knows us.
He is able to care for our deepest needs.
He can comfort us because He knows us.
1 Peter 5:7 says, “casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.”
God is good and comforts us.

Also Nahum reminded the people that …………
………. God is a strong refuge when trouble comes.
Or “a stronghold in the day of trouble.”

The word “stronghold” means, “a place of safety, protection and refuge; a safe harbor in the storm.”
Sooner or later, we will all need a strong refuge.

When the storms of life rise against us, the winds of adversity beat against our life, ……
…………. Dear friends, we have a place of refuge as the child of God.

We will discover that there is peace in the midst of the storm.

He is close to those who trust in him.

Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Strong hold in the day of trouble

We live in the midst of much uncertainty and confusion. The proud nations of the world rage together, and the arrogance of evil men… who strut along the corrupt corridors of power and pass legislation that angers the Lord, are seeking to entrap His people. But we must never forget that GOD is in control of the entire universe. The same God rides on the winds of the wind, has scheduled every day of our individual lives and promised to care for each of His own.

He knows the troubles that we face day by day but he is always there to keep us safe in our situation.

We must never forget that the LORD is good and a stronghold in difficult times, and He knows those who have taken refuge in Him. Those who trust in Him must always remember that Christ won the victory at the Cross. when the burning fires of God’s jealous anger was poured out in Him instead of on us – so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
