The Delights of His Temple

Psalm 84.3
The temple of ancient Israel was the center of the life of the Israelites. People worshiped at the altar with sacrifices every day of the week, but they also went to the open courtyards and covered colonnades for all kinds of social reasons.

The psalmist looked at the birds who nested in the eaves of the temple and imgined building his life so that it centered on worshiping God. God does’t live in a temple, but he will love in our hearts. This means he really can the center of our lives.

Let God be your rest in the midst of your restlessness.
3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Selah
(Psalm 84:3,4)

Do you feel restless?
God is a home and a refuge to the humble and restless. We are deeply loved by God and itโ€™s in Him that we can find comfort and rest.

Psalm 87:1
“He has set His foundation on the holy mountain; the Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.”

God loved Jerusalem because glorious faith was exercised, glorious things happened, glorious things were taught, glorious worship was offered, glorious atonement was made and glorious anointing was poured out in Jerusalem. Godโ€™s glorious presence was evident in Jerusalem.

Zion was the City of God, because God chose that place to centre His redemptive work for the whole world.

In Galatians 4:26, Paul says, “the Jerusalem that is above is free.” Paul says about the Jerusalem that is in heaven where God lives. The New Testament speaks of a heavenly Zion and our registration there. In Jesus Christ, every believer can have the privilege of registration in Zion, of being a citizen of the heavenly City!!!
