God is our Redeemer

Jeremiah 50:33-34 The people of Israel are oppressed and the people of Judah as well… Yet their Redeemer is strong, the Lord Almighty is His name, He will vigorously defend their cause….. so that He may bring rest to their land but unrest to those who live in Babylon

To redeem means to ‘buy back’ or set free from distress or harm. God is described as our Redeemer

Babylon oppressed Israel and Judah and took them as captives. But after defeating Babylon, Cyrus allows Judah”s exiles to return to their land and rebuild Jerusalem. Yet the Lord Almighty declares Himself, not Cyrus, as the people’s Redeemer.

Job in his agony declares, I know that my Redeemer lives Job 19:25, troubled David in Ps19;14 calls out O My rock and my Redeemer The prophet Isaiah proclaims the Lord’s Israel’s redeemer. Is 41:14

God is strong and He is able to redeem as He is to punish. Redeemer who rescues Israel from exile is the same Redeemer who frees us from sin.

🌹 The Fulfillment 🌹

The last chapter of Jeremiah ends with the fulfillment of what God had said. Nebuzaradan, commander of the imperial guard who served the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem. Earlier it was Nebuzaradan who had shown kindness to Jeremiah. Now his actions were so different.

He burnt the temple of the Lord, the royal palace, all the houses of Jerusalem and every important building. Under his leadership the Babylonian army broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.

Except the poorest of the poor, all the other people were taken as exiles to Babylon. Nebuzaradan took away the basins, censers, sprinkling bowls, pots, lampstands, dishes and all the other valuable items to Babylon.

The entire city and the temple was destroyed and looted including the decorated pomegranates and bronze pillars. He also captured and took the important people like the chief priest, door keepers, etc to the Babylonian king. And the king had them executed.

Dear ones in Christ, when God says something never take it lightly. Never doubt His words. The words of God are certain to come to pass. He means what He says and He only says what He means.

📖 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (Num 23:19)

God bless us to be channels of blessings.
