Seeing is believing
(2Chronicles 9:1-9)
In Genesis 10:7b it is mentioned that Sheba is the great grandson of Ham the son of Noah. Most of the Bible Scholars believed that the place/country called “Sheba” is either in Ethiopia or Yemen.
It is encouraging to read the testimony/ first hand report of the Queen of Sheba herself, when she said,” The report I HEARD in my country.. I did not BELIEVE what they said until I CAME and SAW with my own eyesโฆ You have far exceeded the report I HEARD” (v 5-6)
๐ Yes, SEEING IS BELIEVING : she came ๐ฃ ; she saw ๐ and she believed ๐
๐ Today’s passage begins with the advantage of the HEARING FACULTY ๐ :”When the queen of Sheba HEARD of Solomon’s Fame, she CAME to Jerusalem to TEST him with hard questions”. She had no invitation from Solomon to come and meet him nor any guarantee of being welcomed.
IS OUR HEARING FACULTY ACTIVEโ
James writes,”.. Everyone should be quick to LISTEN, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (1:19)
๐ The queen of Sheba HEARD about
1๏ธโฃ Solomon’s name and fame
2๏ธโฃ his relationship with the Lord
3๏ธโฃ his wealth and richness
4๏ธโฃ the fabulous temple and the palace that he had built.
So she came to Jerusalem for two reasons :
1) SHE CAME TO TEST SOLOMON
๐ With hard questions.
๐ God’s favour in his life.
2) EXCHANGE OF TRADE & BUSINESS (v 1b, 9,12)
๐ Solomon answered all her questions because he was blessed with God’s Wisdom (v 2 ; 2Chron 1:12)
๐ The Queen of Sheba
1๏ธโฃ was deeply impressed with Solomon’s ability.
2๏ธโฃ She praised the God of Israel.
3๏ธโฃ She acknowledge God’s favour in Solomon’s life.
4๏ธโฃ She presented him gold and large quantities of spices and precious stones.
๐ Beloved Church, we do not know whether the queen of Sheba was invited by King Solomon or not but we have One greater than Solomon (Jesus Christ) who invites us to come and learn from Him (Luke 11:31; Mat 11:28-29)
Let us stand firm in our faith in Christ Jesus or else the Queen of Sheba will rise at the judgement with our generation and condemn us (Mat 12 : 42)
Glory to God ๐
