Isaiah 12

❇️ With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation (v3)
❇️ The figurative use of water as salvation is most appropriate since water is not only a refreshing luxury, it is a necessity of existence and a gift of God like salvation .

What does the Prophet mean by wells of salvation ?
❇️ In v2 the Prophet says, The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation”
❇️ The Psalmist also says, ” All my springs are in you “(87:7)
❇️ From the above two verses we can infer that the well of salvation is none other than the Lord himself from whom we can have the joy of drawing our salvation.

❇️ This is further clarified by the Lord Jesus Christ himself when he says, ” If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink (Jn.7:37)

❇️ St.Paul says, “They drank of the spiritual Rock that followed them and the Rock was Christ”(1Cor.10:4).He is the inexhaustible source of living water

How do we draw the living water from the well of salvation?
❇️ Jesus Christ while talking to the Samaritan woman says, “If you knew the gift of God, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water” (Jn.4:10). Thus we can draw from the well of salvation by our prayers to our Lord.

❇️ Salvation is illustrated by the following in the Bible.
▪️Chariot of salvation- Hab.3:8
▪️Horn of salvation – Ps.18:2
▪️Shield of salvation – 2 Sam.22:36
▪️Tower of salvation – 2 Sam.22:51
▪️Cup of salvation – Ps.116:13
▪️Helmet of salvation -Is.59:17

Isaiah 10:15
“Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it?”

The Lord disclosed that He would use Assyria as an instrument of judgment against Syria, Israel and Judah, but God knew that Assyrians were more wicked than the others. Even though they were instruments in God’s hand, they never cared about God’s will, but God judged the arrogance of Assyria.

In verse 15, it is said that, “Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with or shall the saw exalt itself against him who uses it?”

God made it clear through this verse that an ax and a saw (Assyrians) being an instrument should never take credit for what the worker (God) does with the instrument. The skill was in the user, but not in the instrument.

“Luke 17:10 says, So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, “We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.”

God uses us as an instrument in the spread of Gospel and it is wonderful to be an instrument in the hand of God and as an instrument we don’t deserve any special glory.

As believers of Christ, we are all unprofitable servants in the service of God. It does not mean that our service is of no value. Our service in spreading the gospel will be greatly rewarded in heaven!!!
