we are to take comfort in Christ

Matthew 10:28, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.

In Matthew 10, Jesus addressed His disciples before sending them out to face a difficult task.
When He sends out His disciples, Jesus gives specific commands.

Jesus warned his disciples that they would confront…..
…….. rejection (v. 14), arrest (v. 19), beatings (v. 17), and being “hated by everyone” (v. 22). They would be vulnerable, “like sheep among wolves” (v. 16), and liable to betrayal, even by their closest family members (v. 21).

But…. Despite such problems, however, the disciples were not without consolation.

Jesus sent them forth with authority over demons and diseases (v. 1), the pledge that the Spirit of the Father would speak through them in times of trial (v. 20), and the promise of rewards to those who welcomed them (v. 42). Moreover, they went in the confidence that God’s kingdom has come near (v. 7), that the time is coming when God will redeem the world.

As Jesus’ followers, we inherit those promises and more.

Jesus says we don’t need to be afraid, because nothing happens apart from our Father’s will, and God knows us intimately and cares for us.

Look at verses 30-31 where Jesus says: “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

So be prepared to face opposition when we share the gospel with others.
Not everyone will like what we have to say.

In this world we will have tribulation, but whenever we are afflicted or oppressed.. whether through conflicts or fears within,…… we are to take comfort in Christ‘;

So dear friends,

Why do we fear?
What do we fear?
Trust His word and fear not
God will take care of us.
