Numbers – A Wrap up


Numbers is a book where the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness getting nowhere. It starts with 6 lakh people and also ends with 6L people, but not the same people except caleb and Joshua. This book serves as a book of examples and warnings to us as we await our heavenly Canaan.

1-10:10 – At Sinai
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ1->The first census of Israel is taken and all the sons of Jacob are listed according to their fathers try except for the levites because god had chosen the levites for his own work.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ2->The Lord himself plans how each tribe should encamp around His tabernacle. Bible scholars say that it was just like a military camp which implies that God’s children were considered as an army of the Lord.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ3-4->God’s chosen tribe, the Levites are counted and accounted for. God Assigned duties for the sons of Kohath, sons of Gershon and Merari.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ5-> God gives laws for ceremonially unclean people to be kept away from the camp because God dwells in it and also for sexual immorality. He also provides a way for a woman who has been doubted by her husband to prove her innocence.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ6-> Laws were given for the people who wish to consecrate themselves to the Lord as a Nazarite. The offering of separation from the world and to cling to God alone.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ7->Every offering brought by every leader of the father’s house was recorded because anything that we do or gift to God is recorded in His Kingdom as well.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ8->The Levites were purified and dedicated as an offering before the lord by Aaron.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ˜๏ธ9->The Israelites celebrate their second passover in the wilderness as instructed by the Lord through Moses and God dwelled among them and His presence like a cloud covered the tabernacle. The cloud was their guide that whenever it lifted they traveled and whenever it stayed on the tabernacle they made their tents.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐ŸŽบ๐ŸŽบ10- Two silver trumpets were made as instructed by God himself that whenever they blew both of them the entire Israel congregation will gather before the door of the tabernacle of meeting. It was also used for various other announcements for the children of Israel.

โ€  10:11-12:16 – Sinai to Kadesh
The children of Israel depart from the wilderness of Sinai and to Kadesh and encamp in the wilderness of Paran.

โ˜๏ธ10- God gives them the order in which each tribe has to move out with the ark of the covenant being carried by the levites leading the way.
โ˜๏ธ11-The people complain once again and arouse the anger of the lord. They complain about having nothing to eat except manna. God asks Moses to choose 70 leaders who will share the load with Moses. The lord sends Quail for the children of Israel.
โ˜๏ธ12-Aaron and Miriam disrespect Moses out of their Envy for him and the Lord punishes Miriam and lifts up Moses in their eyes because he was a humble man.

13-20- At Kadesh
โ˜๏ธ13-14 Spies are sent into Canaan and they come back with a very bad report except caleb and Joshua. When they heard scary news that they were giants in Canaan the children of Israel wept before the lord and was about to kill Moses. Moses again intercedes for the people and the Lord decides that not even one person from this entire congregation will enter the promised land except Caleb and Joshua.
โ˜๏ธ 15-Some more laws were given regarding Grain and drink offerings, on intentional sins and how there is no way back for a presumptuousness Sin and the penalty for violating the sabbath. He also instructed them to wear tassels on their garments so that they will remember God’s commandments forever and be holy unto him.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ17-19-Korah, a Levite gathers people and rebels against Moses and Aaron, questioning the appointment of Aaron as the high priest. God gives a clear indication by making Aaron’s rod bloom. God tells the Israelites to support the Levitess through offerings and tithes followed by the laws of purification for the priests.
๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿผ 20-Moses disobeys God and is punished heavily for that. Aaron passes away and the Isralites mourned for him.

20:22-21:35- Kadesh to Moab
๐Ÿ‘‘21-Canaanites, King Sihon and King Og were defeated. Children of Israel were struck by a plague and were healed after looking up to a bronze serpent as instructed by God.
๐Ÿด22-24- The story of how a pagan prophet Balaam listens to the God of Israel and blesses the Israelites instead of cursing them.
๐Ÿ“› 25-The Israelites again commit a sin against the lord and Phinehas impresses God with his zeal.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ26- Census taken again.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ง27-The law of inheritance was given and the daughters of zelophehad gain their inheritance from the Lord.
๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’28-30- number of offerings to be gifted to God mentioned.
โš ๏ธ31- Midianites conquered and plundered.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ32- Reuben and Gad tribes settles eastward of Jordan.
๐ŸŒŒ33-34- Remembering God’s guidance till date and His plan for the future. Boundaries and the Leaders appointed.
๐ŸŒ35- God is the inheritance of the Levites. Cities of refuge designed for accidental sinners. High Priest being their guardian.
๐Ÿ‘ฐFemale heirs instructed to marry within their family/tribe.

Numbers provides us a paralled of how we, who were bought out of our bondage by Christ for a Blessed life fail to attain that due to lack of faith and obedience. Let us not keep wandering in the wilderness! Trust and Obey!
