Accusation of Injustice
(๐Ÿ“– Psalm 82:2-7)

The Asaphite Psalms 81 & 82 is framed out to show how God addressed the:
๐Ÿ”– National Assembly of the Israelites (Ps 81)
๐Ÿ”– International Assembly of the heads of the nations (Ps 82)

๐Ÿ“ Psalm 82 is a word of judgment on unjust rulers and judges. It begins with God in his role as “Judge” presiding over the great assembly and calling the ” gods ” to
account (v 1)

๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธ 1๏ธโƒฃ (Accusation One)
How long the rulers will:
โœ”๏ธ defend the unjust.
โœ”๏ธ favour the wicked.

๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธ2๏ธโƒฃ How long the rulers called / think themselves as:
โœ”๏ธ gods.
โœ”๏ธ sons of the Most High.

๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธ3๏ธโƒฃ The rulers who called themselves “gods” and “sons of the Most High”, have neglected God’s law (Is 11:4; Jer 22:3,16; Ps 72:2,4,12-14)

๐Ÿ“Œ God as a Judge reminds the rulers:
โœ… Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless.
โœ… Give justice to the poor and the oppressed people.
โœ… Rescue the weak and needy.
โœ… Deliver the weak and the poor people from the grips of the wicked.

๐Ÿ“Œ The Lord has delegated the government of the nations into the hands of kings and judges (rulers), requiring them to rule with justice (Rom 13:1) . But majority of them do not acknowledge that their authority is from God as a result they become arrogant and exploit their subjects. They are held accountable for their failure to protect the poor and maintain justice.
๐Ÿ“Œ The Lord pronounces a final judgment : they are guilty with death penalty (v 7)

๐Ÿ’• Beloved Church, what the Lord requires from Israel, he also requires from humankind and from the nations of the world.
Like the psalmist and the worshipping community we need to pray to God to exercise his authority over the rulers.

Glory to God ๐Ÿ™Œ
