Zechariah 14

❇️ On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives east of Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley with half the mountain moving north and half of the mountain moving south(v4)……. Then the Lord my God will come and all the holy ones with him(v5)

❇️ Above spectacular event prophesied by Zechariah 2500 years back about the 2nd coming of our Lord even before his 1st coming will take place after two important end time events

1. Rapture: Saintly people will be caught up together with Christ in midair during his secret coming (1Thes.4:16-17).This will be followed by 7 years of tribulation.
2. Tribulation Those who missed the rapture will be ruled by the evil one ruthlessly for 7 years (Dan.9:26b -27). Many who oppose the evil one and refuse to accept his mark on their forehead during his rule will die as martyrs, will be raised to life to reign with Christ for thousand years (Rev.20:4)

❇️ Soon after the tribulation the Lord will come back to earth with his angels by descending upon the Mount of Olives from where he ascended to heaven in front of his disciples (Act.1:11-12) during his 1st coming.This time he will fight against the evil one (Rev.16:16) and his disciples in the valley of Armageddon and defeat them.

❇️ After the battle of Armageddon, Satan will be bound by a great chain and thrown into Abyss, locked and sealed for 1000 yrs. During this millennium period Christ along with his saints will rule the earth (Rev.20:2 – 4)

❇️ After 1000 yrs Satan will be released when he will gather the people of Gog and Magog for a battle against God(Rev.20:8- 10). But Satan will be thrown into a lake of burning sulfur and tormented for ever.

❇️ In the light of the prophecy of Zechariah about the future events which may start unfolding anytime now we have only the following options.

▪️ Raptured and be with the Lord
▪️Left behind on this earth and die as martyrs during tribulation and later united with the Lord
▪️Left behind on this earth during tribulation, receive the mark of the evil and face the Lord’s judgement at the end.

The streams of living water which flow from Jerusalem are not dried up by the heat of the sultry mid summer.
We are spared to testify the faithfulness of the Lord.
The seasons change, but our Lord abides evermore the same and the streams of His love are deep as broad and full ever.
We may go at once and drink to the full from the inexhaustible fountain for in summer and in winter it pours its flood.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Elijah found Cherith dry up ,but Jehovah was still the same God of Providence.
Job found His God an overflowing river of consolation.
The streams which take their rise on the mountains of Divine Sovereignty and infinite love shall ever be full.
Generations melt away, but the course of grace is unaltered.

A peep into the future

As we near the end of the Old Testament, it’s as if God wants to share his plans with us, his blueprint, before he goes into silence mode for almost 400 years.

Chapters 9-14 are all about the coming Messiah and his kingdom.

Chapter 9
Both the 1st and 2nd coming of Jesus are prophesied here.
9:9-13, Jesus of our Palm Sunday is depicted; his first coming as the lowly One, “gentle and riding on a donkey.”

In 9:14-17 and in 14:8-11, Jesus ‘ second coming is depicted. The Messiah in all his glory and might shall put all the enemies under his feet and establish his kingdom.

Chapter 11 reveals the Shepherd who came to save Israel but he is rejected. Sold for 30 pieces of silver. All this foreshadows Jesus betrayal by Judas.

Chapter 12 prophesies about the siege of Jerusalem by the Antichrist and his armies in the last days.

Then we see the repentance of the Jews
They will look on me the one they have pierced and they will mourn for him…. and mourn bitterly for him(12:10)

In Chapter 13 we read that there will be cleansing for sin…. *a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and impurity

13:9. *I will refine them like silver
and test them like gold

Chapter 14 prophesies the return of the Messiah upon the Mt of Olives which shall cleave asunder by an earthquake (14:4)
Finally Jesus shall be King over the whole earth (14:9-20) and the blessings ensue.

Wow! How God telescopes and sums it all up for us.
We may not understand everything, but we have the basic idea. Part of the prophecies have come true , so we know that the rest will take place too.

Anyway, we can’t say GOD didn’t warn us or let on or kept us in the dark.

In spite of the prophecies, the Israelites failed to recognise Jesus when he came.
What is most poignant is that when the false shepherd comes, they follow him but he deserts them! (11:17)

We may have differences about who that false shepherd is. I think it’s the antichrist. But even without the anti christ, there are plenty of people to lead us astray. May we not be amongst those who are led astray.
