1 Samuel 8: 7
And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

Samuel prayed unto God when the children of Israel urged him to give them a king. So Lord told Samuel to give them a king with grievious heart.

We have to reject the earthly kings to get the heavenly King.
Some of the earthly kings are idolatry, Covetouesness, anger, foolishness, lusts and so on…
Take heed that these kings may not rule over you.
Abraham rejected the idolatry
Joseph rejected the wrong relationship
Moses rejected the riches of Egypt
St. Paul rejected every thing by counting it as dung
Lord Jesus rejected the throne.
Do you reject that which is hindering, the Lord to be your King?
Christ means anointed. Every King has to be anointed.
The sign of Christ ruling over you is experiencing the gift of Holy Spirit.
Many christians do not experience Christ as their king. Knowingly or unknowingly they make satan as their king by making wrong choices in their lives and take wrong decisions.
Let love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness and temperance rule over you.
