Generous giving piled in heaps, enough to eat and plenty to spare

2 Chronicles 31:5,6,10
HEZEKIAH was 25 years old when he became king and he reigned in Jerusalem 29 years. (2 Chronicles 29:1. 715- 686 BC) He was one of the most Godly king of Judah.

His father Ahaz was a very unGodly king who ruled Judah for 16 years (732- 715 BC- 2 Chronicles 28). He made cast idols for worshipping the Baals(28:2),… sacrificed his sons in the fire(28:3).. He was severely attacked and defeated by his enemies.(28:5-8) He shut the doors of the Lord’s temple and set up altars at every street corner in Jerusalem.(2 Chron.28:24)

King Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He opened the doors of the temple in the very beginning of his rule, repaired and purified the temple for worship. (29:2-17) He re-established the service of the temple of the Lord (29:20-36). The passover was celebrated after a long time.( 2 Chron.30) The celebration continued for two weeks. This led to a Spiritual renewal in the whole country. Then the people went out to all the towns of Judah, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. They destroyed the high places and the altars throughout Judah…( 31:1) Then Hezekiah assigned the priests and Levites to different duties and responsibilities. The king contributed from his own possessions…for the burnt offerings on the Sabbaths. 2 Chron.31:3.

He ordered the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of the LORD (31:4.)

The Israelites followed the example of the king and gave generously (31:5), faithfully(31:12), they piled them up in heaps (31:6). Priests and Levites “had enough to eat and plenty to spare…great amount is left over”.( 2 Chron.31:10)

Their giving
The Israelites GENEROUSLY gave the FIRST FRUITS of their grain, new wine, oil and honey and all that the fields produced. 2 Chron.31:5.
They brought a great amount, a TITHE OF EVERYTHING,…a tithe of their herds and flocks and a tithe of the holy things…and they piled them in heaps. (2 Chro.31:5,6) The giving of tithes was so abundant that it took 4 months to receive all the gifts.(31:7) Their giving was an evidance that the Spirit of God was working powerfully in their lives.

King Hezekiah gave orders to prepare storerooms in the temple of the Lord. Then they faithfully brought in the contributions, tithes and dedicated gifts. 2 Chron.31:12. Arrangements were made to distribute that among all the priests and Levites all over the country.(2 Chron.31:14-20)

Is there anything in our life which God doesn’t like? Are we willing to destroy that for ever?

What is the situation of Christian ministry in our country and the condition of those who serve the Lord?

Many who serve the Lord are going through big financial problems. Are we neglecting them?

Are we giving generously, faithfully and regularly to the Lord? Let us start doing it today.
