📖 Genesis Chapter Six

Exposing The Impact of Sin
” The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil at all the time. ” Genesis 6:5
Yes , we have to confess the above verse to be true today , we are not what God made us to be. The above verse and the verses following gives us the blueprint of Sin.

1) Sin is widespread
✒ ” The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become..” v 5 Sin grows rapidly

2) Sin fills our thoughts
✒ ” … every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was evil.” v 5
The scripture rightly says that the heart is the store house of all wickedness Mark 7:21-23

3) Sin is constant
✒ ” The evil thoughts of his heart went on .. all the time.” v 5.

4) Sin causes God pain
✒ ” The Lord was grieved ..” v 6 Yes , we cause God great pain and sorrow.

5) Sin must be removed
✒ ” The Lord said , ” I will wipe mankind.. from the face of the earth” v 7 . Sin is contagious and because of man’s sin even the animals and birds had to face God’s wrath.

6) Sin corrupts
✒ ” Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight ” v 11 . Corrupt means rotten and it leads to death .

7) Sin brings violence
✒ ” The earth is filled with violence because of them ( wicked people) . v 13
✅ The Climax
God hates sin but He is also the God of compassion. If He wanted to save the mankind, as he promised he would, it would be necessary to remove all the rottenness from the human race.
This would require a cleansing of the earth of all those who had given themselves to sin . God had waited long for sinners to repent , and now it was too late . Noah , a preacher of righteousness ( 2Peter 2:5b ) must have told about the coming judgement but no one was ready to believe.
God opened the floodgates of heaven so that torrential rain came down and covered the earth. The Flood was God’s universal judgement upon the wicked world. Yet He provided the way by which Noah and his family would escape the flood.(6:14).
Normally when a flood comes , there can be several ways for people to escape. But with the flood that God sent in Noah’s time, there was only one way of escape — namely by being on the ark that God commanded Noah to build. God’s way of saving Noah and his family would be the only way of salvation . And this is also true of God’s salvation in Christ ✝
