Christian Training of Children

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs.22:6.

Train children, not in the way they would go, that of their corrupt hearts, but in the way they should go.

Training needs a trainer and parents are the best trainers for children and home is the best training place.
Give child an opportunity to see, hear and experience from the life of parents. Even an uneducated parent can teach their mother tongue to children because it is the language they speak. If a parent don’t know French, how they will speak French or teach French to the children? If parents are only nominal in their Christian life and practice, it will be difficult for the child to learn Christian life from them.

The impressions made in his/her childhood years will remain.

Training up children in the way they should go means, first and foremost, directing them to the Saviour.

Discipline is an integral part of raising Godly children, for we know that the “LORD disciplines those he loves.” (Prov.3:12). Do not withhold discipline from a child, if you punish him with the rod, he will not die.(Prov 23:13). Please study Hebrews.12:11 also.

TRAIN = teach a particular skill or type of behavior through sustained practice and instruction.

Training needs time and efforts. It should be regular and continuous. Nobody becomes an Olympian by doing something, once a week for sometime. Regular and continuous coaching is essential.

Please remember sponge and wet cement about Christian parenting.

SPONGE absorbs liquids whether it is water, milk or kerosene. If a sponge was kept on Kerosine, on squeezing, it won’t give milk…

WET CEMENT: We can shape cement when it is wet. We can’t change the shape of dry cement. Similarly, it is easy to mould children when they are young.

A testimony: The first thing we taught our children when they started talking was to pray. When they started reading, taught them to read and understand Bible. When they were young, they used to memorize 2 Bible verses daily. I got the privilege to lead each of them to the Lord when they were young and they accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Avoided TV at home to prevent its bad influence . Even now, we don’t have a TV at home though I am not against it. Today, my children are active for the Lord in their respective places.

Are we serious about training our children for the Lord?

How much time and efforts are we spending daily in giving them the needed spiritual training?

Do our children love the Lord and are keen to share the Good News to their friends and others?

Stay Blessed 😊
